Subject: Shocks...again! IP: Logged
Message: I know it's been discussed-
After about 150,000 miles, Ive used
The stock- that it came with-duh
then MOnroe Reflex- OK for about a year or two, then not dampening.
then KYB Gas adjust- the same as the Monroes, or the stockers.
Yesterday, I stood on my rear bumper, and jumped up and down, and it felt like a trampoline, virtually no dampening on the rebound!
So, I come to this board, looking for some solid, sound advice about this.
My suspension has no lifts or drops
Are you using a shock, that works as it's intended after say 20-30,000 miles?

Message: I've been using Rancho RS5000's for about 80K miles or so. They still seem to be working just fine, judging by the bumper bounce test.
I drive mostly on the road, a fair amount of towing, and occasional forest road.

Shocks? My Reflexes still run good on my Dakota and Durango. They are a bit too stiff on my Durango, though.

Message: I installed the reflex's on the front of my dakota. I haven't had them on long enough to have an opinion but they are ok for now.

Message: Hey, thanks gang!
All good advice just as I was looking for.
My KYB's now, aren't anywhere as smooth as our 2008 Honda Pilot. NOw I know that the Pilot is independent wheel, and it's NEW (well 8 months old), but I'd lke my Dak to come close on the bumps.

The front end handles fine, no complaints there, just too much rebound on the bumps.

Message: Ordered online 4 x Rancho RSX.
All install them soon and hopefully get the smoother ride back in my 8 year old, 146,000 mile QC.

Message: Installed my Rancho RSX 5000 today.
I'll be damned, if the KYB's I took off didn't still have some of their gas boost, and some dampening when pushed by hand.
The ride is a bit smoother, and the suspension is quieter too.
And It dynoed a 15 hp gain............J/K
All in all I'm glad I made the change.
And, I greased my front caliper bolts with the special synthetic stuff they sell in those little foil packs by the cash reigister in the auto parts store.
I'm still on my original pads, rotors, drums and shoes, for 145,000 miles now!

Message: Well, I had to bump this one again.
I've put several hundred miles on these new Rancho RSX, and they are difinitely BETTER, then the ones I took off.
Driving the same roads to and from my neighborhood, the smae bumps- big improvement.
Going over a double RR track- again BIG improvement! At these RR tracks, It used to make a loud sound, now if just cruises over them.
