Subject: custom 4wd control arms possible? IP: Logged
Message: I just thought that i'd get this idea out there to see if it makes any sense or not. Back in the day the hot rodders use to heat up there axle shafts and stretch/offset them to lower there cars. Why could we do this but in reverse? If someone was good with a welder could they not make tubular upper and lower contol arms with a 1"-3", or whatever maximum offset is possible to lift the trucks? This way the torsion bars wood remain at a stock ride comfort and the driveshaft and cv's would remain at a stock angle. Is this too obvious an idea, or am i missing somthing that makes it not possible?

Message: Yes, it could be done. You'll be raising the body and frame in relatio to the center of the wheel hub. To maintain the same drive shaft angle, you would have to move the entire front drive shaft down in the frame to match the lift.
