Subject: gearshift indicator IP: Logged
Message: I am a new owner of a 1993 V8 Dakota. The problem I have is that the shift indicator in the speedo PRND dosn't move. I have a repair manual but it doesn't show how this works. I guess there is some linkage on the A518 transmission that is disconnected somewhere but I don't know where to look.

Message: It's not even that complicated. All there is is a little piece of string connecting to a lever. The gear selector indicator is attached to the bottom of the instrument cluster with a couple of screws. Remove the dash bezel. When you open it up, it should become obvious how it connects.

Message: Thanks for the response Walt.
Well it should be obvious where that thin wire goes but it's not. I'm pretty sure the original steering column was swapped out so I'm not sure what I'm missing.
There is a thin wire that is broken at the instrument cluster. There is also a tab of metal that runs from the passenger side gear selector to the driver's side of the column. I should just conect the two. But how? There is no hole in the tab of metal so there must be some other way of connecting the wire.
A diagram or picture would really help at this point.
