Subject: Front diff.gears????
IP: Logged

Message:
I have been looking on the net for some 3.91 gears for the 7.25" front diff in my 92 dakota. I can not find any. Does anybody know of an aftermarket supplier for these gears. I have 92 Dakota 3.9 v6 extended cab, with 3" body lift and 31,10.5 x15 tires. The 31's sucked all the remaining unused ponys up. The truck has 3.55 gears now. I figure the 3.91 gears will put it back in the same rpm range as
the factory size tires with 3.55. thanks

if i were you i would go 4.10s
and they do make them, but on a side note, i believe you will need a new carrier as well. They have one carrier for up to 3.55, and one for 3.92s and 4.10s
make sure you look into that
and you will either need to buy or modify your the carrier pin, because the gear teeth are tall to the point you cannot put the pin in, so there is a relief ground into the pin on the one side, so to pull the c-clips you turn the pin, and shove the axles into the relief ground in the pin

thats the way my 1990 is, but it came factory with 3.92s

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars
