Message: I will start out giving the mediators and members props on this work i hope at one point i have the money to join
my question has been asked before but the guy didnt get the answer i wanted
I have a 95 dak 4X4 with a 318 i ended up shattering not only the spider gears but also shatterd the carrier pin one i cant find the parts from a salvage yard for a salvage yard price (amen's suck)
and of course dealer is typicly higher than aftermarket
but i can find sets of solid axels every where which i do prefer
i know that nothing will bolt up and it will take a good amout of work and time on my part but as a machinest/backyard mechanic i think i know plenty to take the task on and i am positive that it is possible i want to know if any one has done this? what problems may be expected? and pics would help a lot along with some tips and facts like (im not sure y some trucks have a dana 70 in the rear and a dana 60 in the front how does that work exactly
and or any alternatves I.E. any body have any font ends that i could get real cheap it has the 3.55 gears
sorry about the long windedness
and thanks in advance for any help you could give me

It's only $30 for a year or $55 for life. If that's a hardship for you, then all those front end pieces you need are so far out of reach you might as well remove the front driveshaft and go rear wheel drive only.

If his front end has 3.55 gears, it may be a bolt-in fix.

Message: It probably wouldn't be a direct bolt in swap. A 87-96 Dakota has a 7.25" front diff and the 97-99 has an IFS version of the Dana 35. The D35 was physically larger.
As far as a solid axle swap goes, it's been done numerous times. We once had a thread about it going on DodgeTruckWorld.Com and at last count, we had over 35 SAS Dakotas listed. The easiest swap is with a Dana 44 from a 79 F150/Bronco. However, if you plan on going with larger than a 35" tire, the D44 outers are prone to failure. I've seen the swap done with axles from everything from Ford F150/Bronco, F250/350, Jeep Wagoneer, Full size Dodge to Chevy axles.

Message: thanks walt
actualy i was only planning on lifting it about waist high or so and figure out tire size as im working
but im sure it wont be over a 35 but then again i am planning on using some half ton chevy axels (they r into truck tugging real big and wont touch an axle with less than an 8 lug) plus im pretty sure with the extra width it will help stabilize my extra hight

Message: when in doubt, get rockwells
then you can run any time size you want with tons of different ratio sizes
i think alot of people run them in the 6 range
1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

Message: Yeah I think the most common stock ratio for the Rockwells is 6.72. I'm currently building a 79 Bronco and berfore I got it I didn't realize how close the frames are to being the same width, I have a spare set of axles out of a 78 F-150 that I am going to swap under the Bronco. I was thinking about buying a wrecked or blown up Dakota and doing this swap after my Bronc is done with the axles I'm taking out of it.
