Message: i am new to offroading and i am having a tough time deciding which tow straps to buy. i found a smokin deal on some pro comp straps . i dont know if i should buy the 2"x30' 20,000lbs. or the 3"x30'30,000lbs. some tell me get the bigger ones, others tell me there overkill.

Message: The 30,000 lbs. is a rating used by the manufacturer as maximum rated capacity. Even though they are rated at 30,000 lb most manufacturers recomend you do not go over 10,000lb (or with the 20,000 lb strap, 7000lb). If you have a dakota 4x4 that wieghs app. 4500 lb, you should have a strap that covers 1.5-2x the wieght of the vehicle (app. 6800-9000lb). This is because when you get stuck up to the framerails in mud, the dakota is pushing against the ground, which gives you more resistance against the strap, which gives you added wieght. In short, get the 30,000lb strap, its worth the few extra bucks.
Where did you find the great deal on the pro comp straps. How much?

Message: hey albert, the tow strap deal is at 4 wheel parts. The pro comp 20,000lb. straps go for 29.95 and the 30,000lb. straps go for 49.95 and you get a free pair of tow hooks no matter which of the two straps you buy. I am new to buying offroading gear, but I was told this was a heck of a deal. Check them out at www.4wheelparts.com
