Subject: Right Front Wheel Negative Camber IP: Logged
Message: For a while now, I have noticed that the right front wheel on my 99 2wd Dakota has negative camber (the top of the wheel is more inward than the bottom). I have had it to the shop a few times and asked them to look at it. They have found nothing but seem to be clueless when it comes to this problem.
Ball joints have been recently replaced (all four) and so have the front wheel bearings. I also haven't noticed any abnormal tire wear...which makes me think this isn't as severe as it looks when the truck is parked.
Any ideas??? Thanks!

Message: At the shops that you've taken it to, have they put it on an alignment machine?
You should have a little negative camber. Not sure of the exact alignment spec for that truck, but certainly less than 1*.
If you can get your hands on a digital level, it's easy to check.

Message: If I remember correctly, I noticed it first AFTER they replaced the ball joints and realigned the front end. Since then, they claim to have had it on the machine and it checks ok. They recently moved to a new shop and are getting a new machine. This time they admitted to noticing what i'm seeing and want me to bring it back for an alignment when the new machine comes in.
I've put over 7,000 miles on the truck since noticing this issue, without any problems. So, I'm not worried, it's just something that bugs me when I notice it. I was hoping that someone had some new ideas for me to try...I know these front ends aren't the greatest.
I'm a college student who isn't home often. So, I try to get the Dakota inspected and fix any problems I notice before I head back to school.

Message: My '01 has about 96K miles on it. I had the alignment checked when the ball joints were replaced under warrenty at around 70K miles. It was well within specs then. Tire wear is good.
If you're limited on time, take it in to the nearest alignment shop and have it checked.
