 Subject: New Shocks!

Time for new front and rear shocks on my 99'4x4 slt with a 1.5-2 inch torsion bar crank and 2 inch blocks in the rear, with 175,oookms on it.
My question is, should I go with stock height shocks or shocks for a 3 inch lift. I could get some "Monroe reflex" stock height shocks for 140$ canadian each, or I could go with the "Rancho" 3 inch taller shocks for 79$ canadian each, and the second one is half price(basically 4 for 3 sale).
Or I could go with a combination of both.
Could I still use the Rancho 3 inch taller shocks up front, even though I don't have a "3 inch lift kit"? Will they still mount the same, and will they be just as good without the lift kit?
I want to make the best decision as possible.
Any help would be great>

Don't mix shocks. Get all 4 of the same kind.
Personally, I prefer the Rancho's. I've had them on my truck for about 70K miles without any problems.

Will the shocks that are designed for a 3 inch lift work if I don't have 'the kit', but technically I have a 1.5-2 inch lift?

Stock height shocks will work fine; that's what I've been running for years with the same front and similar rear lift as you. No need to go to the taller shock at your height. I have stock front shocks and Edelbrock IAS in the rear. No problems mixing that way; solved a handling problem for me. Just don't run different shocks on the same axle.

No, it's stock. Havn't even adjusted the bars.

My truck is my daily driver and long distance cruiser. I tow a trailer sometimes, and will ocassionally drive on unpaved forest roads.
The ride with the Rancho shocks is much better than stock. Definatly firmer, with a little more road feel. Not rough or bouncy, though. Got rid of that stock marshmellow feel, and made it more stable in corners and while towing in bad weather.

Check out Summit Racing's prices on shocks. I found the best deal on Pro Comp's at their site. The ES9000 series shocks are pretty badass. You barely feel small bumps, and you don't get thrown around on the bigger bumps as you do with stock shocks.
