Subject: Off road lights and yakima rack IP: Logged
Message: I have a leer fiberglass shell on my dakota that I opted for the yakima roof rack. I would like to mount some off road lights on the front bar (facing forward) and back bar (facing backwards). I'm looking at the piaa round lights (or equivalent). I know these come with the brackets to be mounted in a bumber or grill guard. I just want to put 2 lights on the front and 2 on the back (on the edge of the rack bar).
Has anyone mounted lights in a similar location? I'm thinking of fabing up some round bracket with a square tab to screw down lights with some rubber coating to protect the yakima bar from damage and help prevent it from slipping. I have some black plastidip that would be good for this.
also, i thought i saw somwhere that one of the light vendors had a remote controlled light. I'm not talking about a remote controlled on/off switch but a remote control to aim the light. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Seem them? Used them?
What about wiring such lights? Should i run new wires from the fuse panel to the lights? I thought about splicing into the tail lights.
