i'll be making a trip down to Island Beach State Park on the Jersey shore this spring and some trips to the Barrens as well. these will be my first times wheeling in sand. what is the recommended air pressure for driving on sand? i'll have Pro-Comp mt's on the truck by then if that makes any kindof difference.

I just got back from a long weekend around the beaches of North Carolina's Outer Banks. Got to take my new 99 Dak out on the beach for the first time. Awesome beaches! Washouts and mud all over the place right now. Tried my a$$ off to get stuck on the beaches and couldn't do it, even in 2wd doing a burnout untill the bumper was on the ground just had to put it back in 4wd and she'd hop right out. I love my truck!

I have found that in the 3 4x4s that I have had on the beach, and also from my friends' trucks that 10-15 psi works very well in radial tires and still has enough pressure to make it to the next beach without airing up again. If you have a swamper or other bias ply tire you will need to go lower, around 5-10psi. Have 35x14.50 Boggers on my 79 Ford F-150, 4x4, 400ci, C6 auto, np205 and had to go down to that 5psi mark to get traction with those tires in the sand. Same thing that happened to my friends Cherokee sitting on 36x12.50 TSLs, had to go down to 7psi in them.

99 Dakota Sport 4x4 318 auto 3in Rancho lift 33x12.50/15 General Grabber AT2 K&N intake Flowmaster exhaust 8.25 posi rear end soon to be 4.56 gears and posi front also.
