Hey,
I do most of my offroading in the winter and I was thinking about getting some skinnier meats. I have 32x11.5s on it now and they do OK, but they get a little floaty when the white stuff gets deep. I have a 99 4x4 with no lift and 15x8 rims. I was thinking about some 235/85s or 265/75s, but that would require new rims. I'm not against new rims, but there doesn't seem to be much of a selection for narrow rims in our bolt pattern. Anybody running pizza cutters? Do they work well, or am I just wasting time? Also, if anyone has a suggestion on where to find narrow rims in our bolt pattern it would help a ton.

How about the stock mags ? The style with the lug nuts covered are 15x7. There's also an inch size tire that's fairly narrow, not real common but available in some brands. I don't remember it exactly, maybe 33x8 15 ?

I've been thinking about getting a set of BFG A/T's 33X9.50R15 for awhile now. The 9.50" tire is the narrowest tire that should be mounted on an 8" rim. So you do not require new wheels. My truck looks kinda stupid in the winter because I normally have 33X12.50's on my '92 Dak with 4" of lift. I have been using 235/75R15 tires(about 29X9.50R15). The BFG A/T has been a great tire for me and it is the only tire(that is not a snow tire) that I know of that comes with that "snow weather rating". You can read about it on tireracks site.

That 33x9.50 is probably the size I was trying to remember. A friend was using tires like that on his full size pick up to skid logs !

ya i run 34x10.50 swampers and we just had wicked winter and my truck drove through everthing mother nature gave use so i would say tall skinnys work good in the snow.
i live in canada.

Long, long ago I saw a film (that's how long...film) about a crazy race the English do:
Something like MG's, or maybe they were MG's and Morgan's; running a straight track of deep mud. Sort of like we do with swamp buggies, I think.
So, they slogged through the mud.
Then someone said; "Let the Land Rover try."
The tractor towed the buried Land Rover away and the two-wheel drive little cars with skinny tires went back to having fun.

I have 235/85/r16 Interco Trxus tires on my 02 Dakota with stock
suspension. They rub like hell even after fender trimming, but they
work AWESOME. I would definetly recommend these tires!
