Message: So I want to get bigger tires(goodyear wrangler mt/r) than my stock 245/60/16. I wanna get 265/75/16(cauz they don't come in a 265/70/16)and i read mixed reviews whether it will fit or not. Some say no and others say will, but will look funny cauz it takes up whole wheel well. If this is true, I was hoping just to lift it 2" with cast iron blocks or something. Is this not the best thing to do? A hard find for my truck with lifts. Only a 3" body I found, but want lower and cheap. Anyone know the best route to go?
Thanks In Advance!

Message: if it is 2wd than you will have to lift it 2-3 inches because a 265/75-16 is almost a 32 inch tall tire but if its 4wd than you can probably get away with cranking the torsion bars up a couple of inches in the front and adding a pair of 2 inch blocks in the rear to level it back out
you should be able to find the 2 in blocks at a local parts store for 30 bucks or so

Message: Its 4 wheel drive. I thought I put that in there. I double checked my tires and you are right. They actually are 245/70/16. There looks like there could be enough space to go a little bit bigger. Stupid question. I have been reading about the highering of torsion bars in the other posts and how would i go about doing it? Is it hard? Should i just get a Chilton for my truck?
Thanks again.

Message: All you need to do to crank the torsion bars is a 1/2in breaker bar (or a long ratchet something with some leverage) and the right sized socket also a jack and jack stands (to keep it safe). You need the jack to get the weight off of the wheels, the bolt is too hard to turn if you don't jack it up first. Jack the front of the truck up and turn the jacking bolt clockwise (if you are looking up at the bolt) at the end of the torsion bar. The bolt is located just inboard of the rear most end of the bar. Turn the 2 jacking bolts (1 for each side) an equal number of turns to make sure the front end stays level. With the trucks weight on the wheels measure from the ground to the top of the fender well to tell how far you've gone. It will take a few turns to get it to get the truck to start to go up. Another caution is don't go more than 3in over stock or you will wear out ball joints and torsion bars like crazy. At 2-3in you should be fine though. Re measure the height at the top of the fenderwell after a couple of days of driving to make sure it stayed the same if not turn the bars up a little more.

Message: Well, that seems easy enough. I will try it and just by some cast iron blocks for the back. 2" should be sufficient I think. Thanks for all of your help.

Message: Another thing...make sure both sides are of the same height. You dont want to just turn both a few times if one side is higher/lower than the other. 2" is the max I'd recommend. That's the highest I've read of some one going. You can max them out til you reach the bump stops but I wouldn't recomend it. I only raised mine up about 1.5" to fit the 32's. I have no idea what that is in metric. Good luck.

Message: so you guys don't even have anything in the rear to lift it up? You just cranked the torsion bars in front to fit your tires?

Message: Mine has a 3in Rancho lift on it but if you look carefully at the stance of your truck when its sitting on level ground the nose is in between 1 and 2 inches lower in the front than the rear so if you go up with the torsion bars roughly 2 inches you will be leveling the truck out so you don't really need the blocks for the back but if you do add them it will keep the stock look depends on how you want it to look
you should be able to fit the tires you are looking at with no problems by just cranking the torsion bars the 35s i had on an old truck would fit inside the wheelwells with no rubbing on mine only 3 inches higher than stock only problem i had was not being able to steer as sharp (tires would hit the back of the fenders on the front) so i had to put the 33s back on

Message: So I got the tires on today w/out adjusting the torsion bars or anything. They fit just look weird because it does take up the whole wheel well. So I would love a body kit, but that would void my warranty so I was thinking about gabriel air shocks. So my question is...Is this the only company that makes them? And are they universal because it doesn't specify part numbers for them when i look for my truck.

Message: Don't know much about air suspension setups but the only air shocks that i can think of are used for load control, such as being able to put more weight in the bed, not height changes. Now if you meant air springs that is a different story. There are lift kits out now that use air bag springs. I think the company is called Kelderman, think they are really expensive though.
