Subject: Torsion bar crank IP: Logged
Message: I'm planning on cranking the torsion bars to level out the truck. The problem is, I don't know how to. =P
Anyone care to explain to me a bit? I've never done it before/never seen it done.

Message: Not sure this is going to be any help...but I've wanted to crank mine for some while now, I've just neglected it. A good friend of mine showed me and explained to me how to do it. If you follow the torsion bar from the front of the truck, to where it ends parellel to the doors, there is a bolt. Apparently, just crank the puppies to where your heart desires. I've been told by some that it's better to do it with the truck off the ground, but then how do you know if it's sitting how ya want? Either way I suppose. Also, an alignment might be necessary after playing around with the torsion bars.
Hope that helps in the least bit

Message: He's pretty much correct, its a pretty straight forward thing to do, just add some shackles or blocks or an add a leaf to level out the back. Usually 2.5 turns should do the trick, Depending on YOUR truck alittle more or less may work out. Also when getting your truck relaligned make sure to tell them not to adjust the torsion bars after you just cranked them!

Message: My truck actually sits 1.5" lower on the driver side, that's why I want to crank it a bit. My local Alignment shop told me $20 and they'd do it. I suppose if you didn't want to do it, you could check your local alignment shop.

Message: ok, i just got back from a lil atv ride through my pond, i looked at the torsion bars, but i didnt find any place to crank them where they end at the doors, its inside of a cross member and there is no way to get a wrench in there to torque them... any answers?

Message: From what i remember the bolts are up inside the crossmember, my crossmember was so damaged i had to cut away a patch of it to get to the bolts to tighten the torsion bars, yours might be pinched together too tight for a socket to fit you might need to figure out how to spread the crossmember a little bit to get the socket in.

Message: Biggz 31inch SS will still rub some with the bars cranked you will need a body lift to keep them from rubing.

Message: From what i have heard on here you can get about 3.5" of lift. BUT IT WILL WEAR PARTS OUT EXTREMELY QUICK, and the ride will be really really rough. Anything on the front end WILL wear out prematurely, If your willing to have your truck in the shop more than having it on the trails don't do it. Just do what has been described in the above posts

Message: I cranked my torsion bars almost to the limit and I only got between 1.5-2" of lift from the front and put a 2" lift blocks in the rear. Of course I also got an alignment right after, and everything only cost me 150$.
Yes, it does ride a little rougher, not too bad though.
It sure beats spending 1700$ on a 3" lift.
Nothing wearing prematurely yet(lifted for 6 months).

Message: No premature wear on mine either - cranked almost 2" for about 5 years; and as you can see, it sometimes carries a bit of extra weight in front.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way
