Subject: New Lift?

Message:
So I have made a contact over at Truxxx / www.truxxx.com
(Very nice people by the way) I was asking them about the
possibility of manufacturing torsion keys for the 2nd Generation
dakota. Well good news we can make it happen all we need to do
is show them that their is a Great interest in this product coming
to the market and they will start the R & D.

A little about Torsion Key Lifts:
A re-indexed torsion key changes the location that the torsion
spring mounts at without changing the spring tension. Hence
you will retain the factory ride quality, if you choose not to crank
them. Without cranking your torsion bars you will receive 2" of
lift with them cranked you could get 4+" of lift.
So if you are interested please just keep this thread going and ill
see what i can do.
Thanks,
David

Will this make it so their is less wear on the front suspension when its cranked??? Either way i'm down with that idea. How much do you think it will cost?

This lift will put less stress on the torsion bars, so yes less where
on them, you would still have wear on the cv's and ball joints like
you normaly would with them cranked. im guessing cost would be
around $200, but i realy have no idea. kep the posts coming the
more responses the more likely whe can have these made.
thanks,
David

Okay class, back to physics/ math...
It doesn't matter if you adjust your existing bolt or install a re-indexed key, the bottom line is you are still rotating the torsion bar. The increased tension is due to the fact that the control arm is no longer level but now at a bit of a more downward angle, meaning it requires more leverage (compression) to take it to the original ride height, not because of increased tension on the bar itself (unless you have adusted to the point of smashing the upper bump stop -more on that later).. Once the suspension has compressed enough to put the arm at stock height, or "where it used to be " it now has increased (preloaded) tension to push it down further hense the stiffer ride. This is going to happen the same regardless of how you reposition the torsion bar (re-indexed key or adjusting the bolt).

This aftermarket keyway stuff all started with the GMs because they did not provide full adjustment capabilities with the stock configuration. In other words they could adjust their torsion bars but still not max out the potentail lift space (reach the bump stop). I have yet to meet someone with a Dakota (regardless of generation) that could not adjust their torsion bars until the upper bump stop gets mashed. Unless they were carrying excessive weight up front (plow, custom bumper with winch, etc) they were good.

Folks, thats all the more you can raise it, I don't care what you buy or turn with a socket. The bump stop is the limit.
If you start mashing that piece of rubber you are simply;
1. Putting undo stress on the torsion bar (which could ultimately cause it to weaken/fail)
2. Making your ride stiffer than it should be
3. Probably ruining the rubber bump stop.

Until next month...when sombody brings this up again...

Other Bill is correct. His explaination of the whole theory behind all this is pretty much dead on. However, I do have a 2000 Quad cab, and my keys maxed out before the bump stops. This is my first time messing w/the newer Dakotas, so I am interested in trying anything that works.
