Subject: Tires .. yea again IP: Logged
Message: Ok so we know stock tires for a 4x4 w/ the Tire Package is 265x70xR16. And with a 3" lift we can fit 305x75x16's.. But if we hold out for the suspension lift what can we put on our dak's? I called the local tire place and Seams like the have no idea what a Dakota is.. they said 245x75xR16's.
Also has anyone road Goodyear MTR's on the highway how were they? How bout the BFG Mud terains?
Yes I know it was all posted before.. but I can't find it :'(

Message: BFG MT's are ok on the highway. They are one of the better ones. I have read that the Goodyears are ok as well but are a bit louder than the BFG's. A 245x75x16 is a SMALL tire. 305x70x16's are basically a 33x12.50. A 3 inch susp lift will still only let you fit 33's. A 3 inch susp and a 3 inch body combined should allow for 35x12.50's (315x75x16). The new Pro Comp Mud terrains are very similar to the BFG's only they have siping in the center trad blocks and are supposed to handle a bit better in wet weather on the road. Any of them would be good.

Message: If its a newer truck (GenIII) you can run 32x11.50's (275x70x16) on 15x7 rims with no lift and no rubbing.

Message: From what i hear from friends that have them the goodyear mt/r are doing great on the highway and are holding up good. Goodyear claims a quieter ride due to a better tread design.
Excellent tire.

Message: Hiya Knobby,
If you have the tire/handling package with the 16" wheels I'd be surprised if you can handle the 32x12.50 tires. I run LT275R70/16 BFG's on mine and get some rubbing while turning in reverse. Also when I air down I get substantial rubbing while turning in reverse. Those are as big as I would go with the 16" wheel and stock suspension. If you have the 15" wheel you should be able to run the 32's like Hawk did.

Message: True. I wasnt thinking about the 2001's having the 16x8 rims. 16x7's would be ok probably.

Message: I have Goodyear MTR's and they are the greatest thing next to the DAKOTA ever made. I have improved breaking and shot past some ppl with BFG mud terrains in full size bowties. The MTR's are not quiet but smooth im getting ready to go for the 3in body lift here in a couple weeks and i dont have a clearence prob with them. I have 15x8 rims and have some backspacing probs in front of tire but nothing big. I would got the MTR's mainly after reading 4WHEEL & OFFROAD mag and alot of ppl rock crawling and strait mudding are running them.
If you need more information just ask ill be more then happy to rave about them i love em.

Message: LOL Steve. I don't think it's cuz of your tires that you're shooting past Chevy's with BFG's. I shoot past Chevy's off-road with my BFG A/T's.
It's a Dakota thing.

Message: Hi Jeff,
I bought it through autobarn.com. It's the Westin safari bar. It's not the most rugged thing in the world (mounts with slotted holes that will prolly pop out if I were to bump anything with it). Also it doesn't offer much in the line of protection for the lights either. I'm just running it until a decent bumper comes out and then I'm gonna do away with it.
But it looks decent for the time being!
