Subject: 55W halogen Offroads IP: Logged
Message: I just picked up some offroad driving lights.
Is 55W halogen going to be enough to light up some moderate trails. they are going to be mounted to the bumper cause I don't have extra money for a safari bar (repairs on my other car have to come first.)
I only paid 30$ Cdn.
What do you think?

Message: Are the bulbs in the housings H3? If so, I'd replace them with 100w or 130w bulbs. Just my 2 cents.

Message: Your not going to gain your monies worth with higher watt bulbs IN THE BUMPER for a couple of reasons > First there not going to shine farr enough in front of you to require more watts > Second having them shine in close area is going to be your biggest help manuvering your rig at night in rough ground > Also the lower watt will be a great advantage in snowy conditions > Both falling from sky and on the ground > Not near the glare > This also applies to fog > I've spent my intire life in rough Montana areas that most wont go > I tried every lighting situation I could come up with > Done right for the proper reasons you will have a great combo > The very worst rough country lights are roof lights > Forget them unless your into high speed night driving .

Message: No, actually I do agree with what you are saying, but you said IN THE BUMPER so I was correcting myself and letting you know that they are going to be bolted on top of the bumper.
Do you have any suggestions for a good, not too expensive off road light( maybe piaa, hella or KC),I like the look of the round lights over the square ones.
Also. should I just save up for the safari bar, or whatever it is, to mount them on.
Thanks for the info, and I will take that into consideration.

Message: To not agree is no problem. any information in here for the most part is personal preferance or opinion. The information I stated is my preferance for my kind of driving in very rugged mountain terain. Driving is slow and close up observaion directly in front of the 4x4 is of most importance. The lights you need depends on the driving your going to do but I'm getting the impression your mostly interested in what others are going to think of how your truck looks and this includes you. There are lots of good looking light systems out there to dress your truck up and no doubt your bound to get some sort of light from all of them. This isn't a flame. I just see no way I could possibly give you a meaningfull answer. Good luck with your qwest

Message: 0b103: What brand of bulbs do you have in your
bumper lights, and what wattage are they? I agree that
it is more important to see what's right in front of you on
the trail, but I also like he ability to see more off to the
sides, so you can pick up the critters before they jump
out in front of you.

Message: Bowhunter. I'm running Hella 55 watt H3 bulbs in a smaller set of oblong shaped housings with light blue lenses for whiter light. These are fog lights, not driving lights. These give good wide visibility but not real long range in front> Even at that, I like the amount of new light they put on the road and best part is they shine in both ditches. For rough stuff. you have great light right in front where it has the most value to you . Keeps me from picking a wrong approach and doing undercarrage dammage. If you do as I do set the lights at 0-0 and 0-0 . This means both are looking exactly straight ahead and both are setting exactly in plain with your truck. This gives you good light right in front and the farthest reach forward the ligts will allow. God luck.
