Subject: Building my own steel bumper! IP: Logged
Message: After a run in with a guard rail when I slid off the road, I decided its high time for a stronger bumper. So I've decided to build the new one out of the ORI prerunner bar that was on the stock bumper. I've already cut and bent a piece of 3/4" pipe that is going to extend below the bar to protect the radiator. All I need to do is weld it in, get some supports in there, fill in the gaps with either expanded steel or tread plate, and I'm good to go. I'll post pics when I'm done, for now this is what I drew up:

How deep can that pond possibly be?

Message: Right on man. I like it when people build stuff themselves.
Them push bars/grill gaurds, whatever at places liek Pep Boys are junk! You couldn't even push a Honda with one of those they sell!
POst pix when done. Some day I want to do soemthing to mine. If I don't make something really close to yours, my other idea was simply some more steel behind the stock plastics to help protect our plastic/aluminum radiator!

Message: Right on.
Built that yourself as well?
I think I need a chop saw real soon. Been doing my own dual exhaust fabrication this weekend using the grinder and sawzall. Sucks.
Will need to cut lots of pipe when I get busy on my Duster. Rollcage, suspension mods, etc.

Message: I helped a guy build it. It was off od Fabtechs design. He builts dirt race car chassis and rollcages. He charges me $100 for it since I barrowed some stuff from work for him. other wise it would be $150.

Message: Mine is very similar to that but it has a bottom rail (soon to be) welded to it that comes down to protect the radiator. Probly gonna fill the gaps with expanded steel or tread plate or something. I don't know if it will look good but it sure will look custom!

Message: I got it mounted today but I still need to put the rollbar back in the truck. I painted the rollbar black too. I took the lights off the rollbar and mounted them on the bar so I will need to go ebay shopping for lights for the rollbar. Look at the same link that I posted for pics.
