Subject: Rancho Lift Install IP: Logged
Message: I am going to get the Rancho lift for my 2000 Dakota and wanted to know how hard the install was. I have put on other lifts before and have pretty good machanical skills. I am trying to see if any one who has put one on before could let me know what I am getting into. And if their are any pointers that any one could give.

Message: i got the Rancho RS6560 3" sus. lift installed at a shop for 320 bucks, and from the looks of the job it was worth every penny. the price i paid included wheel alignment, which alone is $100. you cant install the kit w/o doing an alignment after. also if you have IFS you gotta be right on the money with the torsion bars or it will sit lopsided, too high or too low in front. if you do it yourself, good luck, but take your time. the instruction book from Rancho is about 50 pages.

Message: What and where is this shop that installed that for $320...cause thats a steal. It'd be worth a roadtrip just to have them install it. Ive gotten quotes as high as the kit itself!

Message: hi Levey - yup, it was a great deal. Unfortunately, your road trip would require floats on your Dakota because the shop, Off-Road Performance, is out here on the remote island of Guam, 4000 miles SW of Hawaii. Off-Road installs a lot of lift kits and the owner is an avid off-roader himself and he hangs in the shop most of the day to make sure no time is wasted by the installers. Off-Road probably got the alignment for less than the $100 I'd have to shell out, and generallycharges labor at $50/hour. Included with the install price is a check-up after 3 months to make sure the kit is still bolted up tight. add $100 and you get oil and filter change and drain and refill both diffs. Its nice to still be able to get a good deal.

Message: hey Levey- I saw the shop owner last night and told him about your email and the prices being charged in the states for lift kit installs. he said he knows that alot of off road shops will charge the same or nearly the same price to install the kit as the kit cost. forunately for us, he doesnt think that's fair. about the floats, man I dont know....
