Subject: 88 Dakota: Cant Find Lift!! IP: Logged
Message: I have recently aqcuired a 1988 Dakota, V6, 5spd, 3.55's, etc, etc. I have put alot of work into it and its a great truck even with alot of miles. It cleaned up great. Problem is, I'm not satisfied with 31/10.50/15's. I want something more like 33's on it though but I dont want a body lift. I cant find a suspension lift anywhere!Maybe I'm looking hard enough or maybe there isn't one. I dont know. Does anyone know where to find a quality suspension lift for my 88? And can I continue to use the Pro Comp ES3000 Shocks I just installed if I were able to install a 3" (?) suspension lift? -Mike PS- Of course I realize gears and lockers will definitely need to be installed first. This truck needs em.

Message: Great...anyone wanna buy a Dakota? I was really hoping there was a easier way. Why doesnt anyone make a kit for this thing? Is he saying that a 1992 kit will work with leaving over parts that i wont need or will I have to get more parts? And e said nothing about the rear suspension. -Mike

Message: Ha ha! Now I know why my truck was only $750. Dammit if I didnt shoot myself in the foot with this one....maybe I can still get my 66 Mustang back. Well... maybe I'll just do a front axle swap...Ha! Itd prolly be easier. -Mike

Message: Well my mechanical skills are pretty basic, starter, water pump, alternator, radiator, etc but if they were better iwould have bought some axles off a junk yard and changed em out a while back, your investment is still so reasonable that if you were to do that you might still come out ahead.

Message: I Have a 89 Dakota and have the same problem. I read somewhere that a 3" lift is in the works For 87-91 Dakotas. Some people modify Other newer Dakota lifts to fit on older ones.

Message: Besides Walts way or solid axle lift, Theirs other options to get some height out of your truck, First would be the most common, body lift, another would be is to crank the torsion bars and throw an add aleaf in the back or lift blocks.

Message: im going the solid axle route on my dakota, im using a dana 44 out of a waggy($150), ramcharger front leafs(can get whole front clip for $135),(stock to start out with, then 6-inch), then im going to run a 12-bolt gm rear, so far i got a d44 out of a 79 waggy(pass dropO), butnext payday im going to the junkyard and looking at the 82 waggy(heard 80+ where DS drop d44), if not im swipping the 208/229 t-case from it, and maybe the tranny)(chrysler drivetrain 360 engine , 727 tranny, np208, 219, or 229 t-case,
from my understaning chrysler used the standard 6-bolt pattern t-case and spline count on all thier trannies/t-cases from the np208 up
as for my junkyard pass drop axle, it is in pretty good shape, it looks to need a new pinion seal, u-joint, u-joint straps, and calipers(maybe) and it has has the 3.73 gears
the only downfally to the waggy axle route is that they are spring under setup

Message: I have done a Few lifts all solid axle swap and from what I have seen with Walts site its actualy as hard if not easyer then the kit. The first one I did I used thye leaf springs like mentiond above and it "worked" (rode like a brick)And soon after I'm not sure but I think I dropped a kiddney And then the other approach ;) used ford axels and coils the the pig is on the correct side and everything. But it would actualy be easyer to lift a 2wd this way then a 4wd. I know it sounds dumb at first but hear me out...! To lift the 4wd like this you have to build spring buckets (1/8" plate @ least) then weld thoes to the frame (didnt we learn in autoshop not to weld on a frame)then mount and measure take apart measure some more put back together take back apart build crossmember for the ladder bars on the ford axel take back apart bla bla bla Done !!!!! wooooohoooo now 2wd The buckes are already there and give you a good measurement point to mount your ladder bars "whooooo friggin yaaaaaaaa!!!! stearing is a little more comp. goin from rack to box (or in my case hydro.) illegal here in MI but what isnt
