Message: 2002 dakota quad cab, locked in back with Detroit 9.25. Front axle is Chrysler 205 mm, about 8.07 inches. does anyone know where a locker for the front axle can be purchased ? any make will do. thanks
Message: No front locker available, If you lock that front diff it will always be locked/engaged it will be a pain to steer and it will tear up the front diff.
SAS is about the only way to lock it up.
Another reason to dump the dakota for serious off roading. But they are sweet trucks.
Stay with the rear locker and you will almost go anywhere. Take off the front sway bar for more flex to keep the tires on the ground otherwise once one of the front tires comes off the ground you are depending on the rear locker to get you through it all.
Message: hey 4x4, thanks a lot. I am happy with the rear locker as it does get me just about anywhere i need or want to go. always looking for the edge though. I'm stumped on the SAS in your note, do you mean solid axle?
Message: Yep axle swap is the only real solution. You would be better off going to another rig and building it for that price. Tow it with the Dakota or something. I loved my Dakota a lot but I was over it the minute I got my ZJ lifted and wheeled it. Lots of good project rigs out there. Jeeps have some many options for modding you will get an arguement no matter what you want to do to it some one will tell you to do it differently. The really is no wrong thing to do.
Message: I use the dodge Dakota 2004 most the time on road side is
good idea to put auto locker on front axle? Let me know that
you think I have those on 94 keep wrangler and work really
nice
