Message: My tb's are cranked all of the way up and I am in the center of travel, why would I put a (Trailmaster)lift in my truck when I have inches of travel left ( by the way my cv's are level) my Dakota was rare with a V8 in 95 I think the torsion bars in 95 were not strong enough for the weight of the 318 and changing torsion bars or adding keyways is much easier in my driveway than a full lift and more cost efficient, the last thing I am is cheap,no I'm being smart about this! P.S. I'm a mechanic

Message: So my '95 4x4, ext cab, SLT, pwr everything, V-8, w/ auto, factory am/fm cass w/cd player is rare? I don't think so. Especially not according to NADA or Kelly. I have seen plenty of them on the road too.. Maybe you have V-6 torsion bars mistakenly installed in your rig?

Message: I have a 2003 dakota quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7 v8 i just put new tires on and they rub a bit on my right side i took it to the local shop to have my torsion bars cranked and have it aligned and they said the torsion bars have already been cranked all the way. My front end sits about 2 inches lower than my back , any good way to level my front end.

Message: AJ
First, I would check the torsion bars myself, some shops discourage the cranking of torsion bars (look for comments on this sight) pros and cons. But it is rare that cranked all the way and still sit 2 inches below back.

Message: one just to set things strait I am a very proud owner of 95 4X4 V-8 fully loaded i have totaled it numerous times and been to salvage yard after salvage yard they are not rare at all now one thing i have never seen is the same thing is a manual transmission that is what i wanted but could never find any 4X4 other than the 4 cylinder with a manual tranny that would be rare and i would damn near kill for one
but any way i know ive already posted this but i want to reach as many strong minds as i can
i have a 95 dakota 318 4x4 i have run it very hard throgh all types of mud holes
have proudly tugg o wared with many fords(full size) and won (im sure as hell not stupid enough to take on a chevy)
but anyway well all this playin has left me with a nice set of shatterd front end parts (spider gears carrier pin ect...) ive been lookin around and cant find anything for a reasonable price and was wondering if anyone has ever tryed putting say dana 44 under the good ole dakota because i know where i could get some of those for practicly nothing
what would some problems with this be how hard would it be converting from IFS (which i hate anyway) to the solid axel ect...

Message: just wonted to say your off by 1 gen there are only 3 generations of dakota the forth is on ita way look it up strat out of wiklipedia
The first generation of the Dakota was produced from 1987 through 1996. Straight-4 and V6 engines were offered along with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Four wheel drive was available only with the V6. Both 6.5 ft (2 m) and 8 ft (2.4 m) beds were offered. Fuel injection was added to the 3.9 L V6 for 1988 but the output remained the same.
In 1988, the Sport package was added as a mid-year release. Available in both 2wd and 4x4,
The second-generation Dakota was built from 1997 through 2004. It inherited the semi truck look of the larger Ram but remained largely the same underneath. 1998 saw the introduction of the R/T model with the big 5.9 L 250 hp (186 kW) Magnum V8. At the time of its introduction, it was seen as one of the most radical in its class, not only for its styling, but for the fact it remained the only truck in its class with an available V8 engine that rivalled many V8s found in full size trucks.
Four-door "Quad-Cab" models were added for 2000 with a slightly shorter bed, 63.1 in (160.2 cm), but riding on the Club Cab's 130.9 in (332.5 cm) wheelbase. The 5.2 L Magnum V8 was replaced by a new high-tech 4.7L SOHC "Power tech" Magnum V8 as well.
The redesigned 2005 Dakota no longer shares its platform with the new Dodge Durango SUV (which is now similar to the Ram platform). This model is 3.7 in longer and 2.7 in wider, and features a new front and rear suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering. There are one V6 and two V8 engines available: The standard engine is a 3.7 L PowerTech V6 (specs below); the two 4.7 L V8 engines are the standard PowerTech V8 and the V8 High Output or HO. The Dakota is built at Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan. The 3.7L V6 produces 210 horsepower (160 kW) and 235 ft·lbf (319 N·m) of torque. The standard output 4.7L V8 produces 230 hp (170 kW) and 295 ft·lbf (400 N·m) of torque. The High Output 4.7L V8 produces 260 horsepower (190 kW) and 310 ft·lbf (420 N·m) of torque. Both the 3.7L and standard output 4.7L V8s were available with the 6 speed manual transmission in 2005 and 2006. For 2007, that option was deleted on the V8 models.
The facelifted fourth generation Dakota was unveiled at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. The Dakota gets another facelift and interior upgrade along with a few other upgrades including built-in cargo-box utility rails, heated bench seats, best-in-class towing (up to 7,050 pounds), the largest and longest standard bed in the class, and the largest mid-size truck cab. Its new 4.7 liter V8 produces 302 hp (225 kW) and 329 lb·ft (446 N·m). of Torque. The standard engine remains the 3.7 liter V6 with 210 horsepower (160 kW) and 235 lb·ft (319 N·m). of torque. Production begins in August 2007.

Message: "djodtx" - many enthusiasts don't count the generations the same as Chrysler. They consider the later gen 1s, with the longer nose to accomodate the v8, another generation. If you want to be a purist, you can consider the first generation to be the only gen with two different kinds of sheetmetal for the nose; but that's not how it's commonly considered here.
