Message: Have it your way then.
I'm gonna guess you have a 3.55 rear end ratio.
I'm gonna guess the original tire size from the factory was 215/75R15 (28x8.5x15).
I'm gonna guess you want 33x11.5x15 tires or 35x12.5x15 tires.
If I guessed incorrectly, the figures below will not be accurate, of course.
From a tire/wheel/gear ratio/speedometer calculator an another Dodge web site:
-----------------------
"if you have a 3.55 rearend and 215/75 R 15 tires (28 x 8.46 x 15), changing to 292/78 R 15's (33 x 11.50 x 15's) would be the same as if you kept your current wheels and tires but changed your rearend gears to 2.99's"
You would have to change to 4.20 gear ratio to maintain speedo accuracy.
("if you have a 4.20 rearend and 215/78 R 15 tires (28 x 8.46 x 15), changing to 292/78 R 15's (33 x 11.50 x 15's) would be the same as if you kept your current wheels and tires but changed your rearend gears to 3.55's").
-----------------------
"if you have a 3.55 rearend and 215/75 R 15 tires (28 x 8.46 x 15), changing to 318/80 R 15's (35 x 12.52 x 15's) would be the same as if you kept your current wheels and tires but changed your rearend gears to 2.81's"
You would have to change to 4.41 gear ratio to maintain speedo accuracy.
("if you have a 4.41 rearend and 215/78 R 15 tires (28 x 8.46 x 15), changing to 318/80 R 15's (35 x 12.52 x 15's) would be the same as if you kept your current wheels and tires but changed your rearend gears to 3.55's").
-----------------------
Cost? For that, you gotta call some shops that do that kind of work.

Message: I have 99Dak with 4.10 and 33x12.5x15 BFG A/T. I had the stock 3.55s before. This 4.10 setup is perfect for me since I tow all the time but it revs a little high under normal freeway driving for my likings. At 70 mph I'm pushing 2150 rpm. At 75 mph I'm at 2450 RPM so my gas guage is moving a little faster these days. YICKES!!
In my opinion, 3.55 and 33 are a bad combo. The tranny is always hunting for gears and to keep it in OD on the freeway you have to at least be going 75. I had that setup for 1 month and it drove me crazy. I was always having to turn the overdrive off in the city.
I had 3.55 and 32s and that was a pretty decent combo. A little sluggish but not too bad at all.
Depending on which 35 inch tire you are wanting then 4.10 may or may not work for you. Some tires don't measure a true 35 or 33. For instance my BFG 33 are really closer to 32.
So take all that into consideration plus the huge cost of gears.

Message: my 4.10 gears in my 1999 are definitely more than enough for my 33s. In fact, maybe just a little too much for my BFG A/T 33s. I dropped from 15 - 13 on the free way miles because at 70 mph I'm pushing 2250 RPM where as before with the 33s I was at 1850 RPM. As my tires are wearing my RPMs are going up. In city and towing my boat is superb with the 4.10. Definitely well worth it in that respect. Driving 75 feels like I need a another gear so I just don't do it. Hey.. it's a cop stopper because I never get tickets anymore only driving 70.

Message: Tyler - there is no such model as an R/T Sport. Also, for your year truck the speedometer is driven by a tone ring in the rear, a change in gears will not affect it. You may well want to change gears for the other reasons given here though.

Message: Change your gears to 456 Tyler if u go w/35"s to make up for the loss in torque. I put 35"s on my Dakota and went with 410 and found out later I made a mistake. Heres my pics.

Message: So is it an r/t or a sport? I hope youre not trying to put 33's on an r/t. I'm afraid I'd have to confiscate the vehicle. If its a sport, 33's will rub, but most of us have learned to deal with it and re-rustoleum the frame every month or so where it rubs. It's not a true wheeler unless your tires are way too small or way too big. If the tires fit just right, then its a show truck. That's why I'm cranking my t-bars and throwing add-a-leafs on top of my bl , and throwing 35's on!
How deep can that pond possibly be?

Message: Dewey, nice looking truck...is that with the 35's?
I have a 99 sport with 33x10.5 BFG MT's.
I agree that 3.55's will not cut it...especially when towing and city driving. I am shooting for 4.10's and when the current tires wear, will go 35 with new wheels. I dont tow too often...just hunting season and my truck hunts throught the gears with a trailer...what the hell is overdrive?...should be called overhunt.
