Message: I would talk to the Service Dept Manager. Get his name. If he either wont give you a straight answer or says no, then go for it. Legally they cant void the entire warranty because of a mod. They have to be able to prove that the mod you made is causing whatever problem you are bringing it in for. Example, They cant say they wont replace a bad fuel pump because you put on a body lift unless they can prove the body lift caused the fuel pump to go bad.

Message: I spoke to my service manager about this and also I got a kind of grey area answer. Me having my motor rebuilt at 40K miles (warranty)bought the extended warranty to 80K(120000km). I also had the upper and lower ball joints changed at 40k miles. And recently my trany is clunking when I shift in to reverse. Haven't take'in it in yet. So as you can see that I am a little leary about pushing the limits on my extended warranty. But I still really want a 3" body lift but are leary because of my dealerships answer. What do you think?

Message: Hey Mason, just like Hawk said and I argee if the dealership won't give you straight answer then go for it.That's what I'm going to do,give my Dak a 3" bodylift and run my 32's until I can afford 33's.It might be a little tough for you Mason since all that trouble with your motor because dealerships are bad about blaming the customer first and then doing doing the job later.I haven't had any troulbe so they might look at me differntly but I might be wrong really who knows what they will say.All in all,go ahead and do what you want because its your truck!!!

Message: There's a law that governs how warrenty claims are handled in relation to aftermarket equipment and end user modifications. It's generally referred to as the Magnusen-Moss Warrenty Act. It has a longer name for those that like to nit pick. And a simple google search will turn it up for you.
What it says, in a nutshell, is that the warrenty can be voided if it can be proven that the aftermarket equipment or modification caused the failure. And the only part of the warrenty that is voided is the part that was damaged by the part/modification.
For example. You modify the headlight wiring so that the fog lights stay on with the high beams (why you would do this I have no idea). After that there's a failure of the headlight switch. The dealer can refuse to accept the warrenty claim and charge you for the repair. That's legal; and IMO appropriate. But if the rear carrier bearing fails, the dealer cannot refuse the warrenty claim because you made a silly modification unrelatd to the failure.
Snowman, the question you have to ask is why the dealer refuses to pay for the failed part. You can use the above mentioned act to force the claim. If that doesn't work, just keep climbing the chain. When all else fails, place a big sign on the truck and park it on the corner for a few months.

Message: ive got a 3 inch body, and ive had my truck to the dodge place twice. the 1st time was a gas line than had fallen down on the drive shaft... the didnt want to cover it at first, but did. and the 2nd time, just last week, the whole fron drive train, pinion, and front axle literally snapped from the frame and was on the ground. that was after a long day of wheelin, but somehow, someway, they covered that too! there aint NOOOOO telling how much that would have cost me. i was gonna go straight axle, because i didnt think the'd cover it, but since they did and it was free, i figured why spend 2,500$ on all that fab. when theyll replace it for free. so i guess yeah, the body lift doesnt void the warranty.

Message: The Magnusen-Moss Warranty Act does set limits for dealers refusing warranty service because of the use of aftermarket parts or modifications. If your having a problem with a warranty claim, work your way up the ladder within the dealership itself. If your not getting anywhere there, ask for contact information for the district rep from Dodge. Most dealers are real uptight about their 5-Star service rating and will do as much as reasonably necessary to prevent the district rep from getting involved. Once he’s involved, it affects their service rating.
You still have to be careful with some of the Aftermarket Warranties that many dealers sell. Some are not actually warranties but are service contracts that are only bound to the terms specified in the contract. The Magnusen-Moss Warranty Act does not apply to these service contracts and some do restrict altering the vehicle from its stock configuration. I had a plan with portfolio, which was sold to me by the dealer when I bought the truck new. At first, I thought I was sold a Dodge warranty until it came time to make a claim against it. That’s when I realized it was an aftermarket plan that had a number of limitations written into the contract. They had paragraphs specifically prohibiting the installation of suspension and/or body lifts. Installation of a lift kit voided the contract according to the fine print.
If you have an aftermarket warranty, check the fine print before you make your modifications.
