Message: Let’s clarify one detail, are you looking for a “Roll Bar” for roll over protection or something to mount in the bed to mount lights on. Many people often confuse bed bars with roll bars.
A “Roll Bar” is for roll over protection and is mounted directly to the frame of the vehicle. Typically it’s made of 1 ˝” or 1 5/8”, .134 walled (or greater) steel tubing that is welded into a single unit. It should be able to support the entire weight of the vehicle on it. Also, typically, it’s mounted inside that passenger’s compartment though some off-roaders build exterior cages for vehicle body protection. The first response with the link to http://www.gsmotorsports.com/rollcages.htm would be an example of a true “Roll Bar” even though that site refers to it as a roll cage. I wouldn’t consider that a roll cage as it’s missing the cage.
What most people refer to, as a “Roll Bar” in the bed of a truck is actually a bed bar. A bed bar is made of thinner walled steel or sometimes even aluminum and plastic. Usually multiple pieces, bolted together and bolted to the floor and wheel wells of the bed. They are not intended for roll over protection. Simply for visual aesthetics and a place to mount off road lights. While they might offer some minimal roll over protection, that’s not what they’re designed to do. Any sanctioned event that would require a “Roll Bar” would not accept a bed bar in it’s place. The eBay link would be one example of a Bed Bar. Another place would be http://www.truckstuffusa.com/truckstuffusa/rollbars.html

Note: I very frequently get email from people asking about the lift kit in my
’88. Typically, I will NOT respond the emails (about 90%) that ask questions
I’ve already covered on my web pages (ie. Where did you get the kit?, Who
makes it?, How much did it cost?, What modifications did you have to make to get it to fit your truck?. How hard was it to install? What problems did you
encounter? etc, etc...)
