Message: on the lockers both wheels are spinning and on a LSD on wheel spins and when traction is lost with the on wheel the other wheel that has no power has power transfered to it. Someone correct me if i am wrong but from the best of my memory that is correct.

Message: well if you have an LSD and one tire is spinning, then your clutches are burned up and ur just destroying your diff. further. all an LSD has is a bunch of clutches squeezed together tightly. there tight enough to give equal torque under a light load but loose enough to slip around turns and under a heavy load. theres no way it can "sense the other wheel spinning and redirect power". if one wheel is spinning, the only way to get the other one to spin is to ease of the gas.

Message: To understand the difference, you need to look at how the wheels turn on a rear axle.
You have three types of differentials.
An open differential: (Sure Grip – Chrysler Term) where power is applied to one wheel (usually the right rear when moving forward). Ever see “My Cousin Vinny”, “Stuck in the mud, one wheel spins, the other does nothing”
With a Limited Slip (LSD - Chrysler term = Posi) power is applied to both wheels. Clutches in the differential allow for a limited amount of slip hence the name. Example: if you are taking a left turn the right tire actually rotates faster than the left because it has to travel a longer distance. The clutches allow for the difference in the speed of the two wheels.
With a locker, the two wheels are “locked” together. They turn at exactly the same speed regardless if your going straight or turning. Detroit is a brand name of locker like ARB, Lock-Rite, etc…
The open differential or sure grip is standard equipment on a Dakota. A limited slip is an option that is included with some of the option packages. A locker is an aftermarket upgrade.

Message: A sure grip is NOT an open rear - now called LSD (for limited slip), sure grip is what mopar used to call that, while posi was GM's term. An open rear and a sure grip are definitely different.
