did you decided on a trans yet to couple to your 4bt? what
would i need if i just had a 4bt and wanted to use a NV4500HD
5 speed manual?

i have been looking hard and have yet to find someone that has
acutally swapped a 4bt into the late 90;s dakota, and posted
exactly what they used, and if it worked, so if there is something
out there let me know

The 4bt is a cummins engine I think. I would think you would need a trans adapter, and then you could use just about any trans you want to.
Check with Cummins and see if they can be of any help, if not I would try Transdapt, or someone like that, they may be able to help or even be willing to make what you need. It may be that the 4bt has the same bolt pattern as the 6bt, if that's correct, then you could use the bell housing from a Dodge truck/w the 4500 bellhousing.
Good Luck

Trying to decide if I want to join DodgeDakotas.

Anyway, I found a link a couple of days ago, where a guy put a mercedes 300D engine in a Dakota. Kind of a hack job, but it looks like it fits well, without much modification. I bet the front sump fit over the stock crossmember.

Good forum you have here, BTW.

My 99 Dak CC has a 4L Isuzu diesel in it.
We had a little time this winter so we pulled out the Dodge Automatic that has been behind it for the last two years and stuck in an NV4500HD. Then we cut the frame just behind the cab and installed a brand new 3 ton Isuzu chassis with duels. The outside of the duels is only about an inch wider then the stock width so from the rear its just all tire. :)
We put 235/85 16 Hankook MT's on the back and trying to squeeze 265/75 16's under the front.
I was hoping to tub the original box but will probably go with a deck since were running out of time.
