Does anyone know if the gear's for the dana 35 front diff's in our truck's have the same gearset's as the strait axl dana 35's? Iv'e been looking on reider's and precision's site's and can't seem to find out if there's a difference.I am looking at a set of 3.92 gears for my 8.25 rear on ebay but can't seem to find a matching set for the ifs front anywhere. I know it's offered as a factory option so I must be looking in all the wrong places I geuss. Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone switched from 3:55 to 3:90 gears after putting on 33's and was it worth it or should I just get the 4:10's.

Eric, Here are some part numbers for you.
Randy's Ring & Pinion # YG C7.25-390 (3.90:1)
Precision Gear # C7/390 (3.90:1)
drivetrain.com # C7.25-390 (3.90:1)
OEM # 4504006
You do know that the front axle in a Dakota is a 7.25" Ring gear? It doesn't matter what the rear axle is. (8.25" or 9.25") Kind of a dumb thing to do as far as I'm concerned. You would think they would have made the front and rear the same size.Hope this info helps. Dan

DAHEMIKOTA,
The front axle in YOUR truck is a 7.25". At some point, the Gen III trucks went to an IFS variation of a DANA 35. Not sure which year but I want to say 99.

Eric,
Going from 3:56 to 3:90 and upgrading to 33" tires will almost equal out. The difference in the gear ratio almost negates the difference in the tire diameter. I found that my speedometer was still fairly accurate on a truck I did the same swap on.

As far as finding the gears, it shouldn’t be that hard as you are correct, 3:90 was a factory option. Call Randy’s again. They always found me whatever I was looking for.

Walt

Thank's guy's. The front end on mine is deffinately a dana 35 (say's so on the cover).Your probably right about the gears bringing it back pretty much back to stock.Gonna save up sum$ before calling randy's though, hate calling just to find out.Much rather call to order some new gears.
