Hey guys I got a 3" lift on my truck and I am getting 33's the wheels I like though are only avilible with 4 1/2" backspacing. I was told 3 3/4 would be better that 4 1/2 might rub. Any help/info is appreciated.

Wow, now I am really confused. I would like some help with or advice about backspacing as well. I have a 01 cc with the 3" rancho lift and 285/75/16 tires (33x11.5) on stock 16" rims. I really want to run a 33x12.5 without any more lift or having to trim. When I had my lift installed a year ago, installer said a 12.5 wide tire on my stock rims would rub upper ball joint. So, I thought backspacing of around 4.5" would allow a 33x12.5 tire. Today they told me I would need substantial trimming to front facia on a 16x8 rim, I have been looking at a 17x10 rim with 4.5 backspacing, they said nearly impossible. What rims are you lifted using? and does anyone have some close-up pics of what and how much had to trim? thanks

Dak01, I used 15X10 weld wheels and 33" tires with the Rancho kit on my '98. The wheels have (i think) about 5" of backspacing. They have roughly the same backspaing as the stock 15X8 wheels, but since they're 10" wide they stuck out 2" more. With those wheels, I no longer rubber on the frame, but I did trim a little off the bottom rear edge of the front fenders and a little off the bottom of the lower front bumper plastic. Took about 20 minutes with a dremel, a grinder, and a can of black spray paint to cover up the bare metal. I recommend trimming if you're getting any rubbing in either of those two spots. It saves your tires, and you don't make those crude noises when you're turing the wheel. Since I took the lift off my truck, I'm now running 33" with no lift... just have to not be afraid to trim a little.

I know my answer is a friggin' novel, but that's my $2/100.

I apopreciate the info no one could give me a strait answer one way or the other. This is what I needed to know. I may have a body shop do the trimming as I am going to have my truck in there this spring to get the tail gate fixed I backed into a sign that was below the tail gate. :(

Dak01, where are you located? If you have a grinder and/or a dremel tool or know somebody that does, you could prob save yourself a few bucks. It's really not a difficult project...just measure twice and cut once. Understand if you want the shop to do it, but if cash is tight it's pretty easy to do yourself. If you can give me a few days, I might be able to take some pictures of my trim-job this weekend.

I have a 3" body lift on a 02' Quad cab and I put Procomp 33x12.5x17's on Center line Sniper rims 17x8 with 5"'s of backspacing. The tires tuck perfectly under the stock fender flares and the only rubbing I get is at complete lock. I turned up the torsion bars for an additional 1" for the front end and the only place it rubs is on the stock mud guard. I think that 5"'s of back spacing is perfect. For me personally I really don't like the wide tire look.
