Subject: Max possible tire size IP: Logged
Message: Howdy all,
A couple months ago, I bought a 03' Dakota club cab 4X4, 4.6 V8, 5 speed manual. It came with 265/70/16 tires. I have a couple questions. First, what is the largest tire I can put on the stock rim?(I THINK they are 16X8) And second, will this cause any problems with clearance? Also, how badly will this affect speedometer reading, handling, and performance? There seems to be a huge amount of wheelwell space left with the stock tires and I am not interested in any lifts. Lastly, if I can't get a good tire on my current rims, what would be the largest tire I could fit on a different rim without a lift? I was hoping for maybe 35-37's on the stock rim.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Lance

Message: The max tire size you are goin to get without a lift on the stock rims is goin to be a 32x11.50 I have heard of people running the 33's on there but you might have to cut some. you might have to cut some on the 32's also.

Message: Thanks, but wow, is that all...really? Thats about an inch taller and an inch wider than current and like I said, there is huge space in the wheelwells currently(if I had to guess, I would say about 6 inches front and 8 rear). Maybe I am missing something here that I don't understand(which is likely). Thanks for the info, as the tires are close to needing replacement, maybe I will need to stick with someting tamer. Would that be like a 295/75/16 if I am correct?
Thanks again,
Lance

Message: I just put on 265/75/16 BF Goodrich all-terrains KO's on my 01 dakota 4x4 quad cab and the front space is tight, maybe 1/2" clearence on a turn. I might have to lift this spring.

Message: Yea, after doing more reading and research, I guess I am way off base. Never lifted or put bigger tires on a truck b4 so no clue. I was looking at that same size(265/75/16) and it seems all tires vary in height/width per manufacturer and some manufacturers make multiple versions of the same size tire with different dimensions. I was just doing the math based on the metric sizes but it seems that means little or nothing. My current tires which are horrible are stock Goodyear Wrangler RT/S 265/70/16(10.2w X 30.7h) with lots of clearance. As of right now, my choice to replace and play it safe is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 275/70/16(10.8w X 31.2h). Any suggestions or advice on this choice are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lance

Message: Anymore suggestions/info? After even more research I am thinking of going with some 265/75/16 instead of 275/70/16 as it seems I would be able to get maximum height/tallness from this size without a lift. Still like the Bridgestone Revo at this size, 10.6 X 31.8. Anyone able to tell me if these fit with no problem?
Thanks,
Lance

Message: 265/75-16's (32") fit just fine and won't rub a thing if you crank your bars up a little. Look good stuffed up in the wheel wells too. I run Cooper Discoverer ATR's.
Anything bigger than that and you'll have some rubbing and it just won't look right without a lift.
PS - All mfgr's will have a different claim on SAE height/width for metric sized tires. Just do the math and use your own numbers cause the size will vary a little by rim width and inflation pressure.

Message: You can run 285/75-16 but it will probably rub at full lock. I run the bridgestone dueler AT on stock wheels with the torsion bars cranked about an 1 1/2 inches. bumper triming will be nessecary. i have pics if you want an idea of what it will look like.
