I'd probably check out a 4x4 magazine and you will likely see several discount warehouse places that carry them. I have a Gen I so I'm probably not much help, but that is where I would start.

Nothing Dakota-specific though.

Message: I am really trying to decide what I want to do. (Sorry Blizz, I know you've heard this a million times.) I really like my grill guard. It looks great and gives fairly good front end protection. It is kinda heavy though and affects my approach angle because it wraps under the bumper to connect to the frame. Its not strong enough to use a highlift on or really push much with so really it only serves as a place with mount some lights and offer a little grill protection from limbs and stuff. This is why I am considering the Pre-runner bar from Fabtech so hard. It will still let me mount my lights, offer some protection for the grill, and do so without affecting my approach angle and with a lot less weight. It will also let me come up with something on the front bumper to use a highlift on. I CANT MAKE UP MY MIND!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Sorry guys. Just had to get all that out.
For the record, I like the Fabtech one a little better than the Pro Comp one. I have looked at them both. The Pro Comp one is about $113 and the Fabtech one is $145. The Fabtech on seems to be a tad stouter to me.

Message: Hawkeye, Do you remember that guy that posted some pics of his 00 or 01 QC with a custom lift and a pre-runner style bumper and skid plate? Do you remember what the make of that bumper was? That was the perfect front bumper. You could put tow hooks on it, use a highlift on it, it had lots of protection. and the appraoch angle was awsome. I dont remember which post it was, but I remember he was the manager of an off-road store.

Message: Yeah I have the pics and have emailed with him a little. I have the number of the place that made his. Just havent called them yet. My fear is that soemthing of that size and weight would be very expensive to ship from Utah to Florida. But yes I do love that bumper for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. Might start getting some prices on it and see what other options I can come up with. Unfortunatly with 2 kids and trying to get ready to start building a house I have to do things the most economical way possible and still achieve the desired results. Here is a rear bumper that I am waiting on a price for. This company also makes a nice front bumper but I really like the other one better.

Message: I have looked at a few of the 4 runner bumper dealios that you have mentioned here. It looks like they attach with 4 brackets that bolt onto your existing bumper. My mopar brush guard attaches also via 4 brackets onto both the frame and the bumper. The question is can you Hi-Lift jack the front end with the pre-runner bumper attachment? Then can you do it using the brush guard? I tried but was skeered when I started lifting it up about 4 inches. Why wouldn't a brush guard work?

Message: You cant jack with the Pre runner bars. I tried with my Grill guard and it wasnt strong enough to do it. I am trying to come up with a way to jack from the front bumper. Havent come up with anything yet other than a new bumper.

Message: Dakota,
Nice to finally meet the guy behind the truck. I have had your site bookmarked and using it as a referance for quite a while now. Love the truck!! In the Salmon park pics, did you experience any shifting or squeaking of the body mounts with the lift? I dont see why you would but have heard a couple of guys say that theirs did (not Daks). I know a few others with body lifts and they take theirs in some serious stuff with no problems. I am putting on my body lift and 33's tomorrow. (cant wait!! Sorry guys, I know you have heard me rambling on about this a dozen times now!) Putting on the Fabtech bar as soon as it comes in (monday hopefully).
I may be crazy but at least Im not insane!!@#^$#@&*!@$#@!WOHOOOO!!

Message: Yah the bumper on the green QC will never be made again. The guy who made that bumper lives in SLC. His name is MAtt and he owns Factory Tubular Accesories. I asked him to build me one. Nope, $1500 took a long long time to make and was a pain in the ass. Also the lift on the QC will cost you about 3000-3500 to do. He had to flip the steering above a bunch of stuff. Also a major pain to do. But he said if I really wanted it , somewhere around those figures for just the lift. He is a really nice guy, he is the manager at 4 Wheel parts in SLC. Just thought that might help.

Message: My bar came with tabs that mount on top of the bumper and two that mount into the front. The bumper leans forward and the two flat light mounts run parallel with the bumper. The lightbar is solid, the bumper leaves much to be desired however. I have a 3" body lift and the brackets for the bumper are, well, for lack of a better word, CRAP! They let the lights dance a bit. As long as the bumber is still on the factory mounts then it should be solid as a rock. My lightbar is mounted so solid to my bumper that I am sure you could rip the bumper off with it. I am going to attempt to stiffen up my body lift mounting brackets somehow.

if ya are interested and live near NC there's a Welder here that said he would build this bumper for $350-450 (which includes metal, labor, and a coat of black paint) and can build it in one day. and trust me the quality of his work is top notch.
so, if any of ya are interested or might be in NC just email me and we'll talk.
