Message: Well the Dak helped its first victim today. Bet you cant guess what it was................................................... Give up??
It was one of those AWESOME lifted Chevy S-10's!!!!! It had 32x14.50 Thornbirds on it. Couldnt move in the sand. Sank just "LIKE A ROCK" as they say in the commercials. I pulled it out with my Dak on its little 32x11.50 BFG's (not even aired down). No strain, no struggle. Just ate his lunch. Dak did awesome at the beach again. Didnt air down today. Only problem I had was some really bad rear axle hop one time in 2wd. Guess its time to save up for the Roadmaster Active suspension.

Message: Hawkeye, Now thats funny(LIKE A ROCK). But it does not suprise me. I used to be an S-10 Owner twice over and now I am a Dakota owner twice over. There is no comparison and def no going back. He was probly one of those new 4x4 owners that does not know how to drive a 4x4, thinking they are indistructable and require no skill to drive them. I also own a dodge status. Living in the ranch lands of Arizona, I have had to cross my fair share of sand washes with it and I have not yet got it stuck. It's all about knowing how to drive the conditions, and being prepared for a misshap.

Message: Meant to say Dodge Stratus(front wheeldrive).
Also, just some simple rules for driving in sand.
1. start slow, you dont want to dig yourself in at the start.
2. Momentum is your friend. It will carry you over most soft spots.
3. Be easy on the brake. breaking to hard to fast can cause you to plow up a lot of sand in the front. You could end up high centered in the front.
4. If you start to loose traction, STOP. Asses the situation before you dig yourself in.
Using these few rules should allow you to safely navigate sand without airing down the tires. I never air down just because its a pain for me. Driving in the desert, the terrain varies widely. from minute to minute I could be driving in sand, rocks, hard clay and so on. So I use Technique verses deflation.

Message: Yeah Mac, it was a newer one but not brand new. Driver did know what he was doing, just had a crappy truck. I have been driving in the sand all my life here in Florida. I like to air down to about 20 psi just so that I can go everywhere in 2wd adn pull people out in 2wd. They really hate that. When mine gets lifted and the 33's go on I doubt I will have to air down based on the flotation I get with my current 32's. All I can say is....
DAKS ROCK!!
(And 4x4 Durango's too!) Had to throw that plug in for my wifes 99 4x4 Durango.

Message: Young enough, but, old enough to know how to drive off-road. Not sure on the age. Probably low 20's.

Message: Just thought I'd throw this out there too. I also saw a 99 Durango (same as ours) with the Rancho lift and 33 BFG's on it. It was awesome. I had to drool for a second and cant wait until I can work on ours. If only it werent for not having any $$$$.

Message: Hey Hawkeye, hows it going?
Re: your current and future tires, what reasons made you go for those brands?
Ex: when my '98 Sahara was just a few days old, I got rid of the tires that came with the 30 inch tire package and went with 31x10.5 Dunlop Radial Rover RVs (at the time, they were rated #1)...what really sold me on these tires was that they were the only true 31 inch tire that was actually 31 inches tall.
Down the road, I'm thinking of 32 inch tires for some limited off-road driving, mostly concerned about drivability and handling in the rain, slush, and light snow, on pavement...thoughts?

Message: I have tried a few different tires over the years and the BFG's are the only ones that have never let me down as long as I did my part. I have just had really good experiences with them. I thought about going with the new Pro comp x-terrains when I get my 33's but after looking at them at the store today, I will stick with BFG's. May put the 31x10.50 Pro comp AT's on our Durango but I still like the BFG AT's better. My wife will probably make the call on those but I am going to urge her towards the BFG AT's. The BFG's stand up to potholes, curbs and pavement pounding very well too as well as being good off road.

Message: Hawkeye
I know you love the BFG MTR tires but you gotta look at the Goodyear MTX tires. I'm running them and have gone through stuff in 2 wheel drive I would not attempt in 4 wheel drive with the stock tires. Now with the locker in this thing feels like it could run up a tree.
