I was wondering, is it normal for the NV231 Xfer case to whine? I seem to have the whine from 45-55 mph.. it only does it with a steady pedal. if I even slightly give it gas, or let off it stops...
I have changed the fluid, and refilled it with DEXRON III transmission fuid. thats what it said in my haynes manual... I was thinking about trying some atf+3 or +4. maybe that will quiet it down some. also, my rear and front fluid is new (and I have hypoid LSD addative in the rear) so that shouldn't be making the noise. It sounds like its coming fron directly under me, so that's why I'm thinking xfer case...

Hey bro are you sure it is the transfer case? I had the same issue with mine a high pitched wine from 45 to 55. It ended up being the rearend. I had a leak around the pinion seal and it cascaded from there.

i'm pretty sure its the xfer case. my rearend seemed fine when I changed the fluid (mo metal shavings or broken clips laying in the bottom) and the LSD is still working.. I hope it's not anyhting major, I just think its an annoyance (for now) Thank god I got the extedned warranty :-)

extended warranty is normally a bad deal but consumer reports roccomends it on dodge trucks *grin*

My transfer case has a wine when in 4wd at speeds under 40 mph.
