Subject: Fabricated steel skid plate for Dakota's IP: Logged
Message: Anyone looking for fabricated steel Skid plate for a Dakota 4X4 2000 and up? I had one made for my truck and it turned out great. My stock plate cracked at the area where it bolts down first weekend out. We always scrap and center out when we go out especially when its muddy! I was the only one not to have the Metal plate. If you are intrested send me an e-mail. I have yet to find anyone who makes these.

The skid plates on fourxfore's truck are very nice. I had a great look at them yesterday on the sand at Pismo, right after the factory front plate on my truck fell off after a series of whoop-de-doos ;-) That was the result of many earlier encounters with Sierra granite, so I was not at all surprised. Pretty sure I won't be ordering replacement plastic Mopar skid plates any time soon.

Message: My truck did not come with factory skid plates but from the sound of it they aren't worth much. Do they make steel skid plate that would fit a 2001 DAKOTA with a 4.7? Or do they have to be fabricated?

Message: The skid plates from dodge are made of stamped steel not plastic. I just got mine in and they look strong enough to me, maybe you guys are mistaking the plastic engine gravel gaurd for a skid plate. BTW the set cost 150.00 and some change, later.

Message: What year is your truck, jimmyjack?
The factory skidplates for the front suspension and transfer case on my 2000 are definitely plastic. Dodge calls them "composite" in the brochure. The fuel tank skidplate is steel.
I wonder if Mopar replacement skidplates are now steel instead of plastic.

Message: I made arrangements with Fourxfore after my first post to this site on 8-21-01 to buy the steel skid plates from him. Now it is 9-05-01 and I already have the plates on my truck. What took the longest was for me to be sure that these would fit my truck and that he was honest enough to send me the plates once he got my money. Well rest assured folks he shipped the plates from California to Michigan and they look great. I will test how strong they are, I am sure this hunting season on a stump or two.

Message: I have been shipping these to people for $35.00 my cost. This is dock to dock service and you would have to pickup at the local terminal generally by the airport. I can only ship for this amount to a major airport city. Generally it takes 3-5 days just depends on when I get them ready to send.
I would like to add that these plates will fit Durango's and Dakota's 2000 and newer RT's, Club & Quad cab.
I have been able to ship the hardware needed to install for those who have no plates at all for an additional $15.00.
Please send me a e-mail if interested. I do have pictures for those who have not seen them.

Message: E-mail me the pics, i am really interested in the skidplates. With regard to the composite skidplates, the ones that are factory installed are indeed composite material, however the ones presented in the mopar catalogue are stamped steel. So that is why there is a cost diff. between factory installed skidplates and dealer installed skidplates. Hey I was wondering is there a dealer anywhere in Nor. Amer. that does Dakota customization and perf. adding like in the old days i.e Yenko vehicles

Message: I got my skid plates from FOURXFORE on Monday. Today, I had the time to install the new steel skid plates. I had no problems, everything lined up correctly. I also took a good look at the old plastic skid plate and what a cheap design. The factory plates have little area's that end up trapping your old vehicle oil, rocks, sand and dirt. The new steel plates are a little wider so you have more protection. FOURXFORE did an excellent job and he also made up some instruction on installing the skid plate (I didn't need it.) It was really easy to install. But, it was a cool idea to print out instruction with pictures.

Hey Dirt! Thanks for the good news!!!
I was wondering what happened. I am glad you had no troubles installing.
Dirt Demon had no hardware or plates. He installed them without really seeing them, except for the installation photo's.

I just took delivery of my '02 quad cab 3 days ago and did not order skid plates for the explicit reason of not wanting that 'composite' garbage. I'd like to purchase or fabricate my own.
This truck is my tow vehicle with some mild off-roading in mind. I've got another truck for the hard stuff.
