Subject: rancho lift n more IP: Logged
Message: ok so i have come to conclusion that pretty much all the lift kits for the dakota (97-04) are crap.. we can all agree that the tuff country, the whiplash and superlift or whatever are crap...But the last main lift kit aval. is that rancho, and i know thay are a respectable company since alot of my buddies with chevys and toyotas have their lift.. so how about the 3 inch rancho lift? I dont care how tall the lift is, just want some more clearance and a better look. So is the rancho lift any good? and if so why are all the others crap? does it have to do with the dak themselves or is it the lift kit companies that just dont do it right?
ps... also.. why does the steering on 00 and newer daks interfeer with lift kits for them? i have a 99 thank god so there are a lot of liftfs for them... but what did dodge change on the steering for the 00 and new daks and why are they so hard to make a lift for? and what kind of steering is used on my 99 dak since the newer ones are rack and pinion i beleive? thanks and sorry for the long post.

Message: Up to 99 they had Worm and sector steering. Yeah 2000 and up are rack and pinion.
I have the Rancho on my 2000 and it is fine.
It is the Rack and pinion that made it difficult to create a good lift. But Rancho did do it.
It is a permenant lift though.

Message: I bought my Rancho lift from Chris Lambert at East Coast. Good guy to do business with and I got the best price around (believe me, I shopped EVERYWHERE before I bought).
The Rancho kit is relatively easy to install if you have some decent wrenching skills. My buddy and I did mine over the course of 2 1/2 days in my garage. It is laborsome, but if you do it yourself, you do it right. Air tools are almost a must. Most everything goes together without much fuss, but you will have to do some fitting in a few areas to get things to fit properly. We probably spent 4-5 hours all together just making parts fit right, but I'm a perfectionist too.
The Rancho RSX shocks are pretty stiff, eliminating almost all body roll, but making your teeth chatter at other times.
You will have to trim the wheel wells a bit (at least I had to on my 97) to fit 285 75/16 tires. I bought BFG AT KOs mounted on AR Bajas to give me a little different look while keeping the backspacing as close to stock as possible.
Took me 7 years to finally do the lift. I'm very, very happy with my lift and the results and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Message: Same experience for me as Jgang. Only difference that I have is Chris had the 9000 adjustables shocks with my kit. Love it though. I did mine by myself and it worked out to something like 36 hours. I'll pay someone if I ever do it again.
