I pulled this from another Dakota Board

ok heres a short list of what you would need for a gen3.
by the way its not complete because everybody will do something different.

Dana 44 or 60 front axle preferably from a 1977 1/2 to a 1979 ford f-250 or 350

Dana 60 rear axle from something. Axle prices vary greatly so i'm not gonna give a price for them

for the rear axle you will have to take it to a machine shop or a place that specializes in axles inorder to have a tone ring installed onto the carrier and a bracket for the sensor in the actual housing. cost me $400

the rear Drive shaft will need to be shortend unless you lift the rear more than 12 inches i think. cost me $50 +/-

the front drive shaft will have to be custom with a double cardan joint at the transfercase. somewhere around $200-300 cant find the receipt

the front out put yoke on the transfercase will need to be replaced.
OK guys THIS IS ONLY FOR A 2003 WITH THE NP233 ELECTRIC TRANSFERCASE!!!! as far as i know. the Spicer part number is 2-4-4341. you will have to have some of the splines machined out of the inside of the yoke to make it seat in the transfercaser properly and inorder to get the bearing pre-load on the out put shaft correct.
I paid $75 for the yoke and did the machining myself on a lathe but expect to pay atleast 20-50 bucks to a machinist.

I used the gear box out of the 78 ford f-250 and fabbed up a mount for it, I dont think this will be able to be used like i did unless you have a 3in body lift. new reman gear box is like $250+/-

I used Flaming River for my steering shaft. $250 for the complete shaft

I am using high steer arms from Parts Mike $230 for the arms and spacers

using tierod and drag link ends from a 85 blazer check out this link. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billa...ingresearch.htm

about 80 inches of 1.250 O.D. X .75 I.D. DOM tubing for the tierod and drag link $85

I used 4 in lifted front spings from a 1977 3/4 ton chevy $200+/-

i used 1977 chevy rear sping shackles for the front springs I had to shorten them up an inch or two $40

rear springs are stock with a 5.5in block and a AAL and the rear still sits 2 in low.
just havent gotten around to getting springs made yet for the rear.

If your new front axle has dual pistion calipers your going to need a bigger mastercylinder.
I converted the rear drums to disk brakes. 1977 Chevy 3/4 ton front calipers, rotors and rubber brake hose. You should really do this cause its almost as cheap as replacing the drums and wheel cylinders and springs .............
If you use my set up I used a mastercylinder our of a 1995 dodge one ton. $230
and a proportioning valve from summit $30
the push rod will have to be made longer just so you know in advance

I'm sure there is so much more that i missed and little intracit stuff I left out but every bodys will be different.

I hope that poster does not mind, sorry if so.

I'm Not sure about that. Has a Blazer he's parting out for me. Said the axle was a 14blt and front a 12blt, already has 4.10/f 4.11/b gears. I'll let you know, going to see him again this weekend when i go pick my buddies truck up from him. He's putting a 350 in my buddies 2002 zr2 blazer. took out his v6. Guy seems to know what he's doing and have heard alot of good stuff from other people. Might be end of this year or sometime in january when i can get it done. Will keep ya posted.

I think BIGTYMER is right. I don't recall GM having the front meatball on the driver's side.

Just about all pre-96 gm's had the pumpkin on the passenger side. Newer gm halftons have the pumpkin on the driver side

But are newer GM halftons (96+) solid axles in the front? I was under the impression GM went IFS in the mid 90s.

Just about anything GM is Passenger side drop...you have to go with a Ford Front Housing or you will have to cut the tubes and re-tube the housing.

i didnt realise gm made a 12 bolt fron diff, you sure it itnst a 10 bolt? and your t case output is on the drivesrs side, when the chevy front pumpkin is on the passenger side. unless you want a diffeernt t-case go with ford running gear.
my 90 dak has a 14 bolt rear, d44 front, 360, 727 and np205 on 36's.
good luck
