Subject: v8 vs v6 suspension IP: Logged
Message: i have a 96 v6 4x4 and have seen a few v8 4x4s around lately and they all seem much higher than mine. is the suspension on the v8s taller? i know they have different torsion bars, but is anything else different? if it is possible, can i put the v8 suspension onto my v6? also, i found that the 97-up daks have a 9.25 rear end and a dana 35 up front, is it possible for me to put axles from a 97-up onto my 96? i know anything is possible, but will they basically just fit rite into place? Thanks, Steve

Message: V6 and V8 trucks have the same suspension. The difference is the spring rates of the torsion bars.

Note: I very frequently get email from people asking about the lift kit in my
’88. Typically, I will NOT respond the emails (about 90%) that ask questions
I’ve already covered on my web pages (ie. Where did you get the kit?, Who
makes it?, How much did it cost?, What modifications did you have to make to get it to fit your truck?. How hard was it to install? What problems did you
encounter? etc, etc...)

Message: so if i get v8 torsion bars, will my truck sit up any higher? since you said they are different sping rates, i assume the ride will be stiffer, but i dont care about that. i like to feel the bumps i hit. Steve

Message: Have you tried cranking down on the existing torsion bars? You can usually gain an inch or two from just tightening down the adjuster bolts (15/16" on my '91). Other than that, what about a simple 2" body lift?
