Subject: Stock 16" Rims/Tire Questions IP: Logged
Message: All-
I have a 2003 4X4 SXT. Stock Tires are 265/70-16.
I am looking for a better gripping Tire on wet pavement and snow and a bit more aggressive tread. I'd like them to ride as nice (or better) on the street as the Stock Tires but also give me a bit more grip on the trail. I do not have a lift and don't plan to do one. I just want to know any suggestions and dimensions of tires people have used on stock rims and a 4X4 that will fit without trimming, Even if the answer is "Buy new tires with the same size and different tread"
I think a slightly larger:
255/75 R16
295/65 R16
225/85 R16 May work but I figure I'd ask people with far more experience than myself!
Also anyone here run Mickey Thompson tires??
I have heard the BFG All Terrains and Pro Comps Are great tires as well.
Thanks

Message: I have a 2001 QuadCab 4X4 with the factory 16 X 8 rims (original tire was Wrangler P265/70R16). My truck is not lifted, and no triming was needed. It is pure factory setup out side of the tires.
I am running LT265/75R16 BF Goodrich Land Terrains from Wal-Mart.
They work out to be 32 X 10.43 and are very good on and off-road.
Hope this info is helpful.

Message: On most 2003 4x4 the largest tire you can run is either a 265/75/R16 or a 275/70/r16. On some occasions a slight cranking of the torsion bars is needed so the front end will sit a little bit higher. If some make sure you get the front end realigned. There are many great tires out there. What i found helpful was www.tirerack.com and just reading the performance ratings. They sell many mud tires and all terrain tires. Goodluck. I am currently running a set of cooper AT's. I like them much better than the stock goodyears.

Message: Thanks all. My torsion bars are raised a mere 3/4". But this is very helpful. I actually like the rims that came stock but I get the rear end loose on wet pavement with the Stock Goodyears
Thank You.
