Subject: What should I do to My 89 Dakota? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1989 Dodge Dakota LE with 4wd and a 3.9 liter V-6. One of my teachers and a couple of friends with jeeps challenged my to go with them to the rubicon. Now I've never been to the rubicon and am pretty sure my Dakota would not survive. I was wondering what kind of modifications you suggest so that it will at least get me through it. Price is my only real concern seeing as how I will be pulling away from my other project my 1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee race car.

Message: well, obviously a lift, bigger tires and gears are the first thing that pop into my mind. trail master has a 4/3 lift for the genII daks, but walt felix put it on his 88. i suggest you go check out my post on raised daks TM 4/3 lift, he helped me out pretty good on that one.
make sure your truck is ready also, dont do this if your trans is slippin, your motor is dead or the t case is shot. make sure what youve got now can take the mods. Steve

Message: My dad and I just rebuilt the tranny using all new parts, overdive unit, torque converter ect... that he got from work for free.' He is the shop foreman at a dodge dealership and one of(if not the) best cummins techs there is so the tranny will run great. Man that thing was a pain in the ass to rebuild compared to the torqueflight 727 we rebuilt for my charger. The motor is completly stock , but runs good and makes way more power than those jeep engines. I just cant find lift kits for 89 dakotas and wasnt sure how much ut is going to take for it to survive the rubicon. I just want a little more than the minimum needed.

Message: When my grandfather passed away he left a 89 dodge dakota to the family. Having so many sons, they drew names to see who would get the truck,4-wheeler, boat ect. My dad ended up getting the Dakota. Me still being young and paw paw's and daddy's little girl in need...I was given the Dakota. Things are starting to look up for me and so now I would like to give my dad back his truck...but before I do...I was wanting to give it the works. Any suggestions? Dealers I should contact? I would like to get the orginal paint for the paint job....where should I start looking around for all of this?

Message: Well let us know what you find, Lil Jim. I just got an '89
shortbed 4WD automatic, and it needs paint badly. It's sort of a
light metallic blue. Other than a leaky T-case it has held up
really well. I plan to keep mine forever at this point. GOTTA get
some help with the paint though. I know a couple of guys that
do primo bodywork for a couple of dealerships, and they took
one look at it and said,"about $2500.00" to paint it right. They
are gonna put some steel under the drivers floorboard for me at
a good price. Way rusty under there but doesn't look like the
body mount or rocker panel have caught it yet. I love that truck.
