Subject: Gears (again) IP: Logged
Message: Hey y'all. I know this has been beat to death (yes, I've used the search function), but I was just looking for some updates from people who swapped gears to 3.92 or 4.10. I have a 1998, 5.2L, 4X4, 5-spd, w/ 33" tires and have been thinking about switching to 4.10 gears.
I guess I'm looking for what kind of gas mileage and hwy RPM's people are seeing. I know that 4.10's will pull a lot better than my 3.55's. Just wondering if the change is worth the $$$.
Also, the gear sets I've found are 4.10 for the rear and 4.11 for the front. Anybody having any problems with the mis-match? Difference should be negligible, but just curious.
THanks!
~Kory

Message: My mileage improved slightly when I went from 3.55s to 4.10s with 33s (higher engine RPM but less torque required). The difference between 4.10s and 4.11s will not make any differences at all and is perfectly acceptable.

Message: i have a graph in one of my mags for gear ratios/tire size. it says for best mileage- 3.73, for daily driver, best overall performance- 4.11 or 4.27, for towing and power w/ poor fuel economy-4.88 thru 5.29. just my 2 cents, Steve

Message: I just went from an open 3.55 rear to a 4.10 with LSD...I'm very impressed with the power gain and towing capability as well as everyday driving characteristics..the truck feels very different to me..my 4.7L V8 4x4 with stock tires towed very well..as soon as I did the BL and 33's it was pretty lame on power...but not now....I feel it was worth the money..
