Subject: Rear locker for 1998 IP: Logged
Message: I've been surfing here for a couple days and can't seem to find a conclusive answer. The threads I've read seem to go back and forth... I'm probably just not understanding things properly.
Can I get a locker (Detroit, Powertrax, whatever) for my 98 Dak? According the glovebox, I have 3.55 gear ratio and a Chrysler 8.2 rear differential. I don't believe it's LSD.
I've checked a few sites that carry lockers, and the closest I've seen is for a Chrysler 8.375 diff and most everything else is for a 9¼ diff.
Sorry if this has been beaten to death, I may just be dense. I just got back from a road trip across the U.S. (California to Pennsylvania) and I watched my brother-in-law do some serious off roading with his Pathfinder and he has a Detroit locker on the rear. It worked fantastic. We had it in Deer Valley in the Sierra Mts and in Moab, UT on the Hell's Revenge trail. It was a site to behold. he has about the same clearance as I do (3" body lift with 33" MTR's) and he had zero trouble on some of the most difficult lines (of course his wheel span is a little short than mine). I was really impressed with the locker and would like to try one out on my rig. Thanks for any help...
