Subject: New BFG MT's IP: Logged
Message: If anyone hasnt seen them yet, BFG has redesigned their Mudd Terrains a little. No major changes, they have just added side lugs similar to those on the new AT KO. It does make the tire look much more aggressive though and will not doubt help out in the traction dept when in the muck. These look so good to me I may have to go back to them when its time to change tires again.
Another tire with very good looks is the new X-terrain from Pro comp. Little pricey though.
I am just a Die hard BFG fan I guess.

Message: I wonder who is making the tires for Pro Comp. I will bet you a dollar to a donut that Pro Comp did not invest millions into a manufacturing plant themselves - I bet either Michelin, BFG, or GoodYear is making them for 'em and just putting Pro Comp's name on them.
Have you heard anything on this?
Same reason I think K&N did with their exhaust systems. I doubt K&N actually makes them - probably Borla or Gibson or somebody like that.

Message: I wouldnt doubt it. Then again, Pro comp is owned by the same guy who owns 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers and Genuine steel. Ever notice why 4 Wheel parts sells so much Genuine Steel and Pro Comp stuff, and usually cheaper than other brands. Cause they are all owned by the same Guy/Company. I worked at my local 4WP store for a little while and got the info first hand. Said all that to say, they might actually be making the tires themselves. Who knows anymore.
Their MT looks an awful lot like BFG MT's with the exception of the siping in the center lugs. I just like the BGF AT & MT better than the pro comps. The exception is the new X-terrain that I mentioned earlier. But for the price (they are expensive) I'll stick with BFG for now (especially the new MT, did I mention that the new MT's look really cool!).

Message: The ProComp X-Terrain tire was made by the Cooper Tire company in Findalay, Ohio...If you go to your local 4WheelParts store and pick up their free magazine, there an article on the tire.

Message: DIRTDEMON
You are right. Cooper makes all Pro Comps tires. Not sure if just the X-Terrain or all of them.
Just bought some 33x12.50 X-Terrains today, will be putting them on this weekend.
Reason I got the X-Terrains is because I got a KILLER deal on them and a set of Pro Comp AT's for the Durango.

Message: Well as I said in another post, they seem to handle very well on the road today going to work and back. Really grip the road well for such and aggressive tire. They are relativly quiet but again, you cant expect this kind if tire to be silent. It does sing a little but not bad at all. Only spot is when the speedo is dead on 45 mph, they get a really loud resonance to them. Just a tad faster or slower and it goes away. Also you can feel a very mild vibration but not anything bouncy or rough. Its kinda a smooth vibration like a pair of hair clippers for lack of a better description. They grab the dirt and grass like nobodys business. Really want to try them in some more serious stuff off road and in the rain in road. Taking a half day off work Fri and running out to the beach to try them out. Got a feeling I wont be disappointed but I dont want to jinx my self.

Message: The new BFG tires AT KO are NOT GOOD. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. I bought mine about 4 month ago and noticed them crack on the side walls and inbetween the tread. It happened on all 4 so i brought them back and the dealer told me that it was happining to a lot of the bfg and michelin tires that get parked on hot asphlt for a duration. So i got a new set for free from the dealer and just about a week ago it started again. So i went back to the dealer and he looked mad at me saying that i am doing somthing wrong. So i had a choice to get an other set of BFGs or Firestone wilderness or Goodyear AT/S because those are the tires that compair to BFGS. So i took the goodyears because i didnt want to get in to a roll with the firestones and I had them for two days now and love them. They make a bit more noise at high way speed then the BFGs but ride smoother and i think makes the truck handle better. Yesterday it was raining and they handled better then the BFGs in it. So i will keep you posted if these crack but the dealer told me that goodyear mixes a UV protectent into the rubber to resist cracking and there the best at resisting it so i hope for the best because my rims are starting to look bad from taking the tires on and off.
Take care:
Justin.

Message: Sorry to hear that Justin. I have been running BFG's for 11 years and never had a problem. They are the best tire I have ever had. Trying out Pro Comps new AT's and X-Terrains now. I will always recommend BFG's as I have had plenty of experience with other tires too and the BFG have always came out on top in every way. Maybe the ones you got were just from a bad lot. Can happen to the best of them. Goodyear AT/S are good tires too though. Had them for a while on my last truck before going to BFG MT's.

Message: My father turned me on to BFG tires a long time ago when he lifted his 1-ton Chevy 4x4. Ever since, I have used them on a variety of vehicles -- from a highly modified Baja Bug (with a 200+ HP modified Corvair flat-6 engine) to a Chevy Blazer to my current 2k Dak 4x4 -- and I now SWEAR by them. This is not to say others aren't good either. I just prefer BFG's.

Message: I got myself a set of BFG MT's (35x12x16.5) on my 99 chevy truck and as I was driving I heard air coming out of the rear one,so I pulled over and looked at it and saw that the air was coming from where the tire meets the rim. I decided to drive about a block more to a tire shop and I got a red light. As the light turned green I was not even going over 10 miles an hour when all of the sudden all the air escaped. I did not hit a curve or anything so I pulled over immediately and put on the spear tire and took the BFG to the local tire shop and they told me that it was no good. I then took the tire to the shop where I bough them from and the owner told me that he had already sent five of those tires from other customers along with one of his that the air just escaped as he was driving on the highway. I'm still waiting for a response from the manufacture adn I WILL NOT RECOMEND BFG MT's to anyone, maybe my ennemies.

Message: A couple of bad experiences don't ruin the whole lot. Could have been a piece of debris in the mold. They are a good company and I bet you get a replacement no questions asked. I know a lot of people that run these tires and have not heard of this problem before. Maybe simply a problem with the way they mount tires in that shop. I've run pretty much everything that BFG has made. The old style MTs, the ATs, Comp T/As and even low profile Euro Radial T/As. I've also run just about all the other types of mud tires over the years. They are the best tires made, bar none. The MTs are quiet, they last for many miles and they kick @%$ offroad. I think you'll find that very few people that run these tires have anything bad to say about them. I run BFG MTs in the Summer and Super Swamper LTBs in the winter. BFG Comp T/As on my wife's truck. This thread is 2 years old and I haven't seen any other complaints about this since then.
