Hey ya'll i was four wheelin this week and my buddy drove his 2wd '93 dakota where he got completely stuck. Well the cops came and my other buddy thought he could drive his 5.0 mustang through this , which only made the problems 10x worse. Well i had to tow my friends dakota all the way out about 100 yards and my rear bumper is bent. Does anyone have any recommendations on fixing it or does anyone have a black rear bumper that would fit a 97 dakota. thanks chris

By bent, I imagine you mean pulled out? If so, try backing in to a tree. I did that on my old Jimmy once, and it worked pretty good.
If you spend a lot of time off road, don't worry about it. Now it's pre-disastered, and you don't have to worry about it anymore :)

Well by bent, i mean that its noticeably crooked, my tailgate won't go down properly, and my ball is bent backwards. If anyone has a bumper that will fit and match then give me a price.
But the cops were cool about us four wheelin and just made us clean off our tires before pullin on to the road. I will post some pics of my truck as soon as i get some pics.

If the ball is facing the wrong way, that means it's twisted. You could try and tist it somewhat back in to shape, but I think that would be pretty tough. You're talking about a lot of force, there. And once you get it sort of back in to shape, it's only good for cosmetics. After that kind of bending and twisiting, I wouldn't trust it's structural integrity.
I'd bet some of the mounts will have to be replaced or repaired as well.
So, either repalce it, or build a new one.

too bad we can't buy the super strong bumpers like they sell for full size trucks. I mean the ones that are v5 rated to tow like 10,000lbs off the ball kinda ones... Luvurne and others. The only ones I have seen are the little 3500lb rated ones. I'd sell my nice OEM one and jump on one of those big puppies in a heartbeat :-)

This place called Tough Country will build steel replacement bumpers, they would be rated for more definitely and much stronger. I believe the site is www.toughcountry.com . Im looking at a winch bumper from there right now.

I would try taking the bumper off and seeing if it is the brackets that are bent. I have bent my bumper while trying to pull a friend out. I was trying to pull up hill. I had some half a$$ receiver hitch that was just 4 peices of metal welded to the frame and bumper that the previous owner had made. The bumper already had damage from an accident I was in so i got a new bumper that came with new brackets. Try that before you buy a new bumper.

Same thing happened on my 98 4x4. What I did was take off the ball and hit the senter of the bumper with a mallet. I bent it back into shape and was cheaper than a new one..
