Subject: which tire?

Message:
hey guys, id like some opinions on which tire i should choose. im going to be running a 33x12.5x16 (or 285/75/16). im not really going to be doing any offroading, but the tires will see snow every now and then. mainly i just want a really aggressive looking tire, something that will make my truck stand out and make others want to get out of my way. id like for it to perform really well on the road and have long lasting life. and if there's one that meets these requirements thats pretty inexpensive, that would be ideal. any suggestions? thanks so much!

and ps whats the lug pattern on the 2000 dakota? i need to start shopping for wheels too, and i know that its not very common, but i forgot what it is. thanks.

Wow, you really want it all, don't you? I guess we all do.

Anyway, trying to get all that in one tire is going to be difficult. One that really looks good with an agressive tread pattern is going to be rough and noisy on the highway. Tires that are sticky and have really good traction are generally somewhat soft and don't last as long. Life is full of trade offs.

I use my truck pretty much like you do. Dirt roads, mud, snow, hauling/towing. Last year I bought a set of Michelin MTX mud and snow tires. A little more agressive tread than average, but certainly nothing like a Thornbird. Excellent traction, quiet, and smooth. They should last at least 60K miles, maybe even 80K.

BFG Baja T/As might do the trick...little pricey though.....i've had pretty good luck with Continental ConitracSUVs, but not sure if they come that big...got my 31s for like $112 each.

I just put on the BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM's (285/75R16) and I love em...

If you're used to normal highway tires (which I was), you'll find that mud tires are kind of "bumpy" on the highway. I've had them balanced twice - it helped the second time.
The installer said that with the 3-ply tires they sometimes shift on the bead slightly after the initial mounting which causes the balancing to go out.

Road noise is noticeable but I don't mind at all cuz it looks so damn cool.

P.S. You gotta have a 3 inch lift for these tires - assuming you know that?

I just installed Super Swamper TrXus STS 33x12.5x16's on my 2004 Quad Cab. $143 each from Tyres International ($53 for shipping). I've gotten plenty of comments on the aggressive look. But they are more of an All-Terrain type tire. Took alot a weight to balance though.

33" 10.50 s are you best bet go bfg all terrains they are proven better in the snow than any other off road tire and they also do well in mud im speaking from experience mudder are good off road but on road they suck they are loud and have bad control and tred life 12.50s are too wide and will mess up your truck stay 10.50

I would have to say the BFG All Terrains. They are an aggressive enough tire for off road and snow, but also tame enough for the highway. I've run both BFG Mud Terrains and All Terrains. The A/T's are much better on the highway. I've put many highway miles on the last set I had. I really can't agree w/ XtrmCore33 about the bad highway manners. I mean, their no Michelin or nothing, but like said above, you can't have the best of both worlds. You have to take the best "average" and go with it. I'd have to say they are the best All Terrain tire off road IMO(unless you throw the Thornbirds in the mix). I went back to the Mud Terrains because I wanted more off road capabilities. I do hear 'em on the road though!

p.s. I'm running 12.50's on 10" rims and love the flotation they provide! Haven't had any problems yet. It's been 30K.
