Subject: won't fit, won't fit, won't fit! IP: Logged
Message: I went to buy some tires today for my 97 Dakota with a 3" body lift. I decided to get some 33x12.5x15 BFG Mud Terrain. I figured there would be some rubbing on the frame, but I figured it would be ok because ALOT of people have 33x12.5 on a dakota w/ a 3" body lift. They mounted one 33" on my new wheels and put it on the truck. It rubbed bad! Everywhere! Well, not a big deal, I'll get a set of 32x11.5. Not as big as I was hoping, but. Mounted one of them and it still hit in front and back. So, I just swapped out my 31x10.5 all terrain tires on to my new wheels because I still have probably 15,000 left on them. Why is it that 31x10.5 are the largest tires my 4x4 dakota with a 3"bl can handle and some can run 33x12.5? Is there another way to gain alittle front clearance with out cranking the torsion bars or buying a suspension lift? Confused.

Message: I was running 33x12.5x15 inch bfg muds for awhile with and without a body lift. Now I have the same size super swamper radials. The only rubbing I had with both was on the frame at full lock...

Message: did you use the stock rims or aftermarket, cause after market will have less backspacing causeing the tire to stick out more and make it rub worse than the stock ones. and if you have the stock ones i don't know what to say.

Message: what are your new wheels. sounds like a back spacing issue. also what width.
the trick to running tall or wide tires isn't so much the tire size as where its loocated in the well. aka wheels.

Message: What condition is your torsion bars, if they are weak or wasted that could be hindering your ability to fit larger tires. With body lift, 33's should fit on stock rims.

conig...
I bought a set of 15x8 eagle alloy series 186 (large bullet holes). A link to the wheels is below. Yall are right, and I relize that now about the backspacing. I should have paid more attention, but oh well. I like the look so much better. I think I'm gonna do some light fender trimming and adjusting.

I'm not sure what condition the bars are in. What do I need to look for to find out their condition. The truck has about 95,000 miles on it and has been off-road very rarely. Conig and the others are right about my problem, it is my wheels. Dakota's have a deep backspacing and these are sorta shallow which kicks the tires out alot. Also, what is the limit on cranking the bars safetly and not damaging anything? Thanks

Message: if you are using the 3.75" backspaced wheel, that is most likely the main problem. As long as you do not have any lift blocks, helper springs, etc. in the rear, you should be able to level your truck front to rear by cranking tbars. With your truck parked on flat surface(blacktop/cement), measure the distance from ground to wheel well opening(use axle for center point) at rear, then check front the same way. If you can get it within 1/2" or closer then your tbars should be ok. If they are good, you can crank them to add an additional 1/2-1" more without serious effect I have found since I have mine maxed and have been driving this way for almost two years and no parts have failed.
Cranking the tbars will help some with the high offset wheels on the street and you won't have to trim as much but if you go offroad at all, you'll still want to trim until there is no rubbing to avoid tire/wheel or fender damage:)

I think it will work with trimming or if you remove the inner fender lining. Mines trimmed up alot presently, I think I'm just going to remove it.

Message: Here is a question that has been brought up alot, but i want to hear it from a newer post. I have 15x10 inch AE 589's. I tried 33x1250r15 BFG AT's and they rubbed alot. Now I am thinking of putting my stock wheels back on and I need to know whether my 15x8 inch stock Dak wheels will be able to handle a 33x12.50 inch BFG AT. I have a 3 inch BL. and the T-bars are going to be cranked on saturday. Is this possible or should I stick with the 589's? They stick out really far now and I feel like cranking the bars will be too much.
Please someone help a confused dude out.
Where will I rub with stock rims and these tires?
Any pics of this out there?????

Message: I also have a 97 sport with a 3" bl. I'm running 33x12.50x15 Truxxus STS's on 15x8 American Racing Bajas. The only rubbing I get is at full lock. The offset is only .5" from factory. Check with the tire specs to see if you can mount them on 8" rims. I beleive most 12.50 tires will fit.
TRUCK IT UP!
