Subject: transfer case loose ???

Message:
Last time I was out climbing I had to put the truck in reverse while in 4low. I heard and felt a loud POP from under the truck. I looked under and all looked good and the 4x4 still worked. Took truck in and they said I blew the tranny mount. I had the tranny mount and both motor mounts replaced but the 4x4 shifter still moves ALOT when going over bumps. Almost like the tranny or transfer case is not bolted in correctly. When going down a washboard road, I can feel something slapping the underside of the truck. HELP, I can only find 1 tranny mount and it is brand new now. What can cause the loosness of the transfer case?????

Thanks guys, this site rocks

It is going in tomorrow for them to look at again they believe the mount is gone again I thought it was a motor mount but the shop foreman at the dealer told me they rarely go.I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Just got my truck back from a good shop, he showed me where the trans crossmember was actually twisted up. He said it happened while I high centered and bent the skid plate up and it twisted the mount. not to bad though, Dealer wants 108 for a new crossmember and my mechanic will reinforce it with more steal and install it for 75 bux. Let me know what the dealer says about yours.

Wow, that is alot for a darn boot. Were you able to shift into 4wd before taking to the dealer? All my linkage seems fine and shifts normal, but I do hear a clunk going into reverse and the mechanic said it was becouse the crossmember is bent.

yes i was able to shift into 4wd but it was very stiff.I also found a shift boot at cdn tire for $25 I took the console out and screwed the boot to the lip from the inside so you can't see the screws turned out good alot better than $153.
