Subject: Winch Bumper for the Dak IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys. good news for me. I ordered a new bumper from Hanson Enterprises. Talked to Wayne Hanson the other day and he told me that the bumper should have been shipped yesterday or tomorrow. Have had great service with Wayne so far. He has always returned my calls w/in a couple of days and went ahead and talked with me for a while about the bumper and prices. Be advised that the prices on the wsebsight are not accurate anymore. The bumper I ordered, included just about everything but the shower (still not exactly sure what it is for, think it is for cleaning the winch), ordered it so I can put a winch on my truck (which is currently and anxiously waiting in my garage for its new home). The bumper came out to be about $1600, but will be well worth it when I am pulling up to 18,000 lbs with the winch (with a snatch block of course). saw a few pictures of it, thanks to FourXFore for posting them, as well as the ones on Hanson's web sight. Looks like it is going to be a tough abd sturdy bumper, will add soem pics when I get the bumper in. Oh yeah one more thing, gotta have it paintd yourself.
Till I get it in.

Message: Dan good to hear Wayne is pumpin out more Bumpers. I know the guy can talk, I have shown up there to check in and show him the always growing progress and add ons and I end up there for an hour bs'n.
A few things to mention. I have posted this story before but the asses on this site called BS so whatever but I have a pull on my truck of a Ford F-350 Dually pulling a trailer full of 8 full size Bulls, Horns and all. The truck was 2wd and stuck, the driver had to be at a rodeo hours away and flagged me down to help. Long story short, Hooked up to him with the winch and went to 4wd low and with the power of the winch and 4lo I slowly pulled his ass out. He was spinning tires out of the hole he dug and for about 10 yards. I was afraid the cable was gonna snap but it held. You can figure out the weight but he claimed it to be upwards of 19 k lbs prolly more he said. Oh yeah I am a V-6 too.
One recomendation is to put a 100 Foot cable on and not a 125'. I have crossed over to the Amsteel rope for safety and extra strength of the wire cable. If it snaps there is no recoil and makes it much safer.
Congrats on the bumper as long as you are with someone off road you will go anywhere and have a great time trying!
I can vouch for the strength of the bumper!

Message: The bumper comes raw steel. I have priced priming it with a self etching primer and painting it for about $150.

Message: Jim, Not sure what the rating is of the other bumpers out there, but Wayne hanson assured me that the bumper he makes will withstand a 9000 lb winch with a snatch block (that 18,000 lbs)

Message: Hey all, got my bumper and got it painted and on. Was a little disappointed in the finished product. I think a bit more finishing work could be done (namely grinding down sharp edges). But the bumper is stout and strong (and heavy). I had to pay $250 for it to get painted, but that included degreasing, sandbalasting, 2 coats of self etching primer, 2 coats of epoxy primer, 2 coats of paint, and 3 coats of clear coat. Looks sharp and strong. I will have pics taken of the bumper on the truck in a week or two along with some "personal insight on what I think is the best way to mount it with winch and all". All I have to do is to stretch the cable and I am ready to winch the titanic out of the water....
Another bonus, since I own a 03 Dak, nobody makes a suspension lift for it. But after installing the new bumper, I had to do some radical trimming to the wheel well plastic. With a little tweaking of the torsion bars, I have no doubt that I will be able to fit 33"s on it.

That is allot of plastic to cut off out of the wheel well. Trim a little in back and your 33's will fit pretty good.
Lucky for me that I live 30 minutes from Waynes place. He did the install and got mine painted for me.
