Subject: frustrated. add a leaf for 00 QC 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I have been unable to locate an add a leaf for my 00 QC 4x4. I called 4 wheel parts and they can only get it for the 4x2, and stated that one was not applicable to the 4x4. I want to lift my truck and i am finding it harder then i thought. I started with the ranch 3" lift idea but 4 wheel parts said i needed to replace my stock 15" wheels with 16x8's with a minimum of 5 1/2" of back space (per Rancho). No good since I just bought (a month ago) new BFG AT 32x11.5x15's and i here that much back space is not so good for my ball joints. So i decided to go with a torsion lift with an add a leaf for now insted of blocks or shackels and now i can not find the add a leafs for a 4x4. Does anyone know where i can get the add a leaf for a 4x4? A body lift was my last resort. It just seems to be more of a cosmetic thing then anything else other then giving me more room for bigger tires. Also, i have the K&N air kit and from what i under stand i would have to customize something due to the body lift and i am not that mechanically incleined. any help would be great.

Message: WTF!!! When has 4 wheel parts ever had a clue.
First off 5.5" is stock backspace. If you go less than that you will run into problems potentially if you wheel it. You need to stay as close as possible to stock. I would not go less than 4.5 " of BS. You should clear 32's fine with a TB cranking and if you need a add a leaf it will raise the back about 2". If anything put on the 32's trim a little and dont do the add a leaf. You will level out your truck more if you just turn the TB's some. Get it aligned after the cranking just to be sure it is still good.
You do not need to change to 16's for the rancho lift. But the relocation of the upper ball joint does make it about center on the tire and also make it a tight fit with a wider tire on stock rims. a set of 1/4" spacers will fix that if you had the Rancho lift.

Message: I just bought a set of FabTech Add-A-Leafs from 4 Wheel Parts two weeks ago. I just installed them last week. The sales rep that I spoke to said the same as ludakris. The problem however is that Fabtech has only tested the Add-A-Leafs on a 2wd truck so depending on who you spoke to at 4 Wheel Parts they can't technically just come out and say "Oh sure they will work" without Fabtech's authorization.
Mine took a little longer than I expected to install (about 4 hours) but it was will worth what they did for the looks and ride of the truck.
Later,
2001 Patriot Blue SLT Quad Cab 4x4, 4.7 V-8, K&N air filter, new Moog upper ball joints, Powerslot rotors, Hawk pads, Fabtech Add-A-Leafs, and a 3" PA body lift.
