Message:
Im lookin to buy some skid plates from the local Dodge dealership. I do moderate offroading but have never had any problems with stuff gettin broken under there. Are they really a good buy?

If I were you I would buy them for the transfor case and the gas pan. Just becasue you haven't broke anything yet dosen't mean that you won't. I look at skid plates like auto insurance. you might not need them very often but when you do your glad that you have them.

The first time you need them, they will be worth every penny and every hours it took to install them. My truck has the stock plastic plates. I've only needed them once, and they worked extremly well. Rolled over a large boulder (as big as a hall closet). If you look close, you can see the scrape in the plastic.

I had to upgrade to some steel skid plates that I fabricated after I exploded the stock plastic ones. It's amazing how when you dop about a foot onto a rock that platic won't hold up

I have had my stock skid (plastic - or composite) plates protect me from rock etc, etc, many times. Thing to remember they are "skid plates" not armor plating.

They protect you from minor impacts, if you need more then that have some heavy metal plates fabricated for your truck.

Either way enjoy your offroading.

I get them, I just had to use mine today when I was out wheeling and cresting a hill which dropped off on the back side but had to keep rollin because it was a steep hill. Anyhow, didn't come down hard but I would hate to see what woulda happened without.
