Subject: Maximum size tires without a lift
IP: Logged

Message:
Today I had just purchased a set of Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's for my 2002 4x4 Dakota Sport regular cab. They are 265/75/R16 and fit WITHOUT A LIFT KIT. I state this for all those who wonder what are the biggest tires that will fit on a 4x4 Dakota without getting a 3" lift. Since I have 16" rims, I decided to take the plunge and pay for the best that I could get. I love the MT/R's and would recommend them to ANYONE. If I had the money for a 3" lift, I would have even went wider, 285 or possibly 305. I did crank my torsion bar up 1 FULL 24mm socket turn for room sake (about 1/2" raise) . They would have fit without cranking the bar up any without rubbing, but only BARELY. If I would hit a bump on a turn, then it would have rubbed some. Therefore, I cranked it and it still looks great (NO RUBBING WHATSOEVER). The front still sits about 1.5"-2" lower than the back. What you don't want is the front to sit higher than the back. Then you'd have a HOOPTY, :)

Looks good. Great pictures. Are they as loud on the street as people say. I have Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials and they are so loud my steering wheel and pedals and fillings in my teeth vibrate.

No, they are totally the opposite of what everyone is saying. I don't find them a bit loud. I was pleasantly surprised. I must say, this was a great purchase. I HIGHLY recommend them!

Hmm. Looks nice. Same brand as stock too LOL but more meat!

I lifted my 4X4 2 inches, so I assume I'll be fine to go romp a bit with those.

What do those tires run ($$$) mounted and balanced for all four?

Thanks for the comments. Well, they ran me $190 per tire installed. This included all of the balancing and fitting. Therefore, after tax, about $810 for all 4. I bought these at Dobbs Tire and Auto centers in the St. Louis, MO area. Yeah, same brand as stock, but I LOVE Goodyear and wanted to stay with that brand. Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's have GREAT reviews, and now I can see why. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Regards,

Steve

Yeah, 33x12.5 will fit, or so I hear, due to the fact that they are 15" rims. Since I had 16" rims, 265/75/R16 was the max. that I could go without a lift. I look forward to seeing your pics.

Hey Mopar 4-Ever. I took a look at those Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials that you have. It's too bad that they are soooooo loud. I think they look pretty nice. Personally, I like the white lettering on my tires. I think it gives it that added touch.

I love white letters too, but with the 'wheelin' that I do I probably would have already rubbed all the white off the letters. Your's do look tough with OWL's. I'm working on getting some pictures of my truck on here so stay tuned.

Sully, your photo won't come up. Please recheck your link. It's not accessible to us who can't access your Yahoo photo album.

Try entering a path similar as shown below into this message field:

img src=http://photos.yahoo.com/jomama0277/D492.jpg

This path is just an example, and don't work. But, if you have a working path, then it'll work. Please see the NOTE below for it to work successfully.

NOTE: Include these following brackets at the beginning and at the end of the above path for this to work: < for the beginning and > for the end. I'd put them up there now, but then you'd not see the path that I'm trying to explain to you, just a red "x" stating an error'd path.

Make the the address path of your photo (ie. photos.yahoo.com/dakota). This way, your photo will show up immediately as mine does above without having to cut and paste the path into your browser.

Yeah, my next purchase will be some ceramic brake pads. They emit NO BRAKE DUST. I currently have 50,000 mi on my OEM brake pads and the techs stated that I have another 10-15,000 mi. until I need to change them. Once I do, I will DEFINITELY go for the ceramic brake pads. They recently came available for the 2002 models. I don't think they are available yet for the 2003/2004. There's always a 2 year delay due to it usually takes 2-3 years for the OEM brakes to wear out. I'm so tired of that brake dust. Soon, it'll be history FOR GOOD!

Yeah, they came through great. Those are some nice tires. They sure make your truck look TOUGH.
How do they sound on the road?

Sully,

Your picture link works too. NICE truck and tires. Are they loud on the road? How much did the front bar cost? Was it OEM? Those Pro Comps sure look better than the goodyear RT/S's you used to have, I must say. How much better performance do you get with your air intake mod?

Steve
