Subject: converting 2wd, to 4wd torsion bar setup IP: Logged
Message: Subject pretty much sums it up.
has anyone, or would anyone know what would be involved to run 4x4 suspension on a 2wd dak.
here is my thinking, torsion bars have great adjustability. as well they are already setup for 3inches taller height on the stock 4x4.
I would asume I could actually get more then 3inches of height from them in a 2000 4.7cc If I went with a set from a quad 5.9l 4x4 since I won't have the weight of the motor and 4x4 axles t-case etc.
any mechanics out there let me know what I need.
do the 4x4's have different upper and lower control arms? shock mounts, seems it would be time consuming yet cost effective.

Message: Its a completely different syspension. Even though they are both IFS they are completely different as far as mounting points A arm design, shock placement. Youre better off with a 3 inch lift coil set up and a spindle lift. But if you really really want to have a 4x4 suspension under a 2 wheel drive truck I hope you have a lot of $$ to cover the cost

Message: Really won't work. You'll need the 4x4 lower control arms to accept the torsion bars. To keep the geometry correct you'll need to run 4x4 upper control arms and spindle. The 4x4 spindles require the halfshafts to keep the hubs from coming apart and the halfshafts require the front axle. That hasn't even gotten into the steering yet. This is not even remotely cost effective.

Message: well it was worth a try. I have the three inch lift and as far as I know I cannot get spindles and the only other idea I have is to make a crattle setup that attaches the the mounts for the lower a arms with new mounts for the upper and lower a-arms.
then I still don't know what to do about the steering.
